Yeah start working again man. She needs to stop dealing with her boss but in a strictly work setting.

I really doubt that will happen. She's been working with the same people for 4 years now. All the managers are really close even outside of work. They go out to the bar as a group most of the time.

I also don't expect her to stop being friends with him or any of her other co workers.

The only thing I expect, now that we're talking and making an effort to communicate our problems with each other, is for her to answer my calls anytime I call her and to just let me know when she goes out.

Call Tod, and ask him that!!!  Seriously!  You need to show this guy who is the man here.  She is bitching and complaining and seeking guidance from him?!?! and he feels a sense of power and ego from that.  It's time to cut him down to size.  I'm dead serious about that.  Go down to their work and talk to him.  Be strong and tell him you don't appreciate what he's doing.  Take him to a room where only the two of you can talk, don't cause a scene, and your wife has NO reason to be pissed at you for doing it.  If anything, she is going to see a side of you she hasn't seen before.  ONE THAT PUTS UP WITH NO BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!  If she has a problem with your marriage, going to a co-worker to work them out makes NO sense.  I would be most mad at her willingness to divulge yours and hers dirty laundry to someone else.  A married, predatory scumbag as it seems.  Where the fuck is his wife?!

Damn, man.  I'm really pissed over YOUR situation.  haha

In all seriousness, do what you gotta do.  You two do not have a partnership right now, and you're not working as a team.  In my eyes, she isn't holding up her end of the bargain, and needs to start looking at your marriage like a job too.  Date night?  NO!  Every night should be your night and her evenings out with her "friends" should be the thing that's scheduled once a week.

Well I didn't effectively express what I meant to convey because I was in a hurry, but I guess it works out because I have something that I need to reply to.

I can perfectly understand managers going out and celebrating after work. But I cannot understand not coming home, or doing it every night; I don't even think it is about that, anyways - it is specifically about her and her boss. Movies? "Sleeping at work"? All of this money that is involved? :what:

This is as simple as it gets: The time that she invests in relating with others is time that she is not investing in you, and if she was interested in relating with you and spending time with you, she would.

Now, once again, I can understand celebrating camaraderie with co-workers, and I can understand not spending every free second with each other. But this is not about that, is it?

It sounds like you are only seeking very minor adjustments to the day-to-day and it isn't going to change anything, as far as I can tell. I realize that this is not my situation and I could not know half of what is going on, and have to rely on the situation as you convey it to us, but I do try to seperate your observations from your judgement regarding that observation and try to analyze it for myself. I'm just afraid that you are going to get really hurt because you're going to accept a situation that you probably shouldn't because you're hopeful, and it will get to the point at which you can no longer accept it.

I don't understand why she would spend so much time with her boss, in the ways that she is, and her behavior regarding this relationship with her boss sends up yellow and red flags to me. So, what, she is going to go out with you once a week and stay out every night with her boss, whose investing all this money into her? The money doesn't lie.

Once again, this is just the way I see it, and I hope you don't become upset because of what I say. Take it with a grain of salt because I do not know you two and my judgement cannot be your judgement, but I would encourage you to consider this judgement in comparison with your observations and really objectively think about all this. I wish you the best. :tripping:

Also, have you talked to supermarket? What does he think?

The way I see it is I'm obviously going to give it everything that I can. I am more than willing to make the changes that I need to make and try to stay on the same level with her.

I can't control her, nor do I want to. She says that she has already made her decision. I'll just have to see if she sticks to it.

I know that in the middle of all of this, I am letting my emotions effect my thinking at times. I also know that when there is a problem like this, there isn't usually a happy ending.

This is some very good advice that I am and will continue to follow.

Whoa now. It is not his decision who his wife chooses to spend her time with, and to confront this guy in such a manner is just asking for trouble. Its unskillful escalation, in my opinion.

You are definitely right about reversing that "date night" bullshit. I could understand spending time with her boss in a more open public setting, like a bar, with co-workers. Things are much less intimate that way, the way they should be when its just friends.

But, yeah, IMO it is not his place to confront the dude. Its his place to confront her about him. He can't make her decisions but, IMO, he needs to give her the point at which she has to make that decision. Subtle changes like "just start answering your phone" is not going to be effective in resolving this. I don't think it has to be strictly either/or, but it can't be the way it is now because its suspossed to be a relationship. She's not investing in it. :nonono:

Okay, let me explain where I'm coming from with this.  A BIG problem in my last relationship was the ex-husband.  He shared custody of a daughter with my girlfriend and when I came into the picture, he turned very surly and nasty to her.  All of a sudden picking fights with her over personal things that happened in their marriage.  I didn't blame her of course, but I did notice one thing.  She would fight and argue back, when all I kept telling her to do is say "if this doesn't have anything to do with our daughter, I will not discuss it" and hang up the phone.  She wasn't doing that and not taking my feelings into consideration.  Big arguments followed, which was probably exactly what this guy wanted to happen from his actions.  I was not going to stand for it.

I took things into my own hands.  I very calmly met him out for dinner, was not threatening, but explained to him that man to man, what he was doing was bullshit.  Whatever problems they had before are the past, and he needs to get over it because they have a daughter to raise and none of this shit was helping.  Before that encounter, I think he thought of me as a pushover.  Whenever I saw him, I did my best to be cordial and non-confrontational, and HE took advantage of that.  It's not like he liked me after I did that, but one thing... he respected me and no longer pulled that bullshit.

In return, my girlfriend respected me for standing up for US on my own, and taking control of a situation that was becoming out of control.  I no longer relied on her to handle a situation she was not in full control of, so I stepped up to the plate for the sake of OUR relationship.

To me, the same type of thing needs to be done in this situation.  Not with violence or hate, but with a rational attempt at understanding.  The truth is, and snypa may not want to hear it, but this Tod guy has no respect for him.  If he did, he wouldn't be doing what he's doing.  IMO, it's time to make this guy show respect.

Just the way I would handle things.  God knows, I don't always do the best thing.  But I never sit passively on the side while people feel they're getting the better of me.  Regardless of the outcome, I can hang my hat on that.

Look I think that first of all your situation was different than Synpa's. First of all because he is the one that is being left out by his while you were the one who got all your girlfriend's attention. Why should her boss have respect or any other feeling for him? He's just a guy who is probably hitting on his wife and he wants her . And she seems to respond (at least on a certain level) to him by agreeing - she goes out with him, she accepts his money. This isn't an issue about "manhood" and who must respect who, it is about him and his wife and what is happening in his wife's mind.

Second of all, it is her decision to take whether she wants to be 100% in her relationship with her husband or not. Until now she doesn't show any sign that she's determined to save her marriage and I think that interfering in her decision, in any way, and especially through making her boss "respect" him will only alter the results in a negative way. His wife is not a child, she's a mature woman and she must take care of that problem on her own, since she meets her boss at her own will and nobody's forcing her into that.

I think that neither her boss nor her will show any respect for him if he decides it interfere. More to that, supposing that synpa decides to talk to her boss and her boss will leave her alone after their discussion, what positive results do you see in all that? If her mind is indeed set on cheating him, she will fin somebody else in an instant. And that would fuck things up even more.

While generally I don't feel that people should have to run interference in the relationships of other people, there is maybe a special consideration here given the fact that this is a relationship between an employer and a young (somewhat ambitious) employee. What he is doing is hitting on her. And as an employer, this is just wrong. Her career future could depend on how this all goes down, which is what makes sexual harassment so wrong. I'm not saying this qualifies as "harrassment", but it is still wrong for a lot of the same reasons. Is Tod man enough to consider this? And what if someone threw the term "sexual harrassment" around incidentally? Might he then back the fuck up?

Dudes, this is NOT the way to handle that. Are we really getting back to middle ages when the man was the one who made all decisions? Why does it has to turn into something ugly? Since when this thread is about what kind of boss Tod is and which are the ethics?

This is about synpa and his wife and what's going on in her mind regarding their marriage. Let's try to keep this discussion in a wat that it could actually help, not ruin.

Mushroom: I will leave it at this. Men know better how other men work, and women know better how other women work. This guy is well past hitting on a married girl and not caring about the husband because she is willing. He is her BOSS. He paid for her bills for god sakes without asking the HUSBAND? Sorry, I get what you're saying, but IMO this situation no longer calls for another couple discussion. Nothing seems to be sinking in to her. If snypa wants to gain a level of control here, he needs to step up, no more whining or rationalizing with her, and take it in some way or another.

and when it comes to a relationship between a man and a woman, manhood (and womanhood for that matter) is ALWAYS an issue. Ever think that perhaps his wife just isn't responding well to seeing her husband as a stay at home dad? Do you think she may be subconsciously resisting seeing her man playing a socially historical female role? You're the female, so you may know better so I won't pretend to know what she's feeling.

All I know is this. A man who suddenly gets his balls back is a man who can suddenly accomplish ANYTHING. It's how we work. It's how we operate. It's how we survive. It's something that every woman in a relationship should understand about their man. We react positively by feeling like a man in control, whether you think it's macho bullshit or not. It's the truth.

Look, I agree with you that he may need to step up and take action. I think you are focusing on her boss because you think he's the source of the situation, but he is not. He is simply a symbol of the true problem that needs to be resolved.

You are right that it does need to be resolved, but this is about his relationship with her, not her relationship with the boss (that relationship is simply the expression of the problem). Do you not realize that him confronting his boss is only going to turn his wife agansit him?

I mean, your situation was different, the ex was playing mind games and your wife didn't want it but didn't know how to handle it or whatever (sorry I was sort of skimming 'cause I was about to eat, so if that wasn't accurate forgive me, reminds me of a comedian on Bob And Tom who was talking about how he can't compete with food, how the guy in the audience will have his eyes on him the whole time until the food is brought to the table and the comedian doesn't exist anymore ), and you came in and saved the day and were a hero.

Well, I have the distinct impression that his wife doesn't want to be saved from her boss like that. Its only going to make things worse, she already feels like her committments are preventing her from being her (which, itself, is not a good sign) and to have her commitments confront what she is seeking is not going to be effective.

This is between him and her. The boss is simply the external manifestation of the underlying schism in their relationship. The actual concern needs to be addressed, and I agree with you that he needs to take action.

It might be but it's not the best probability if you take a close look at the details from their relationship. I can't tell you how a woman thinks because from what I learned we don't all think a like and neither do men.
All I know is that I could not stand to spend so much time away from the one I love. When we love (all of us both male and female) we do not behave like that.
If I were Tod I would have no respect fro someone who would tell me to leave his wife alone, that's for sure.

Agreed.

I think you are only reading my last posts on this matter. I do think the problem lies with the wife and their relationship. However, the side issue with the boss is something that isn't going to go away. This guy is her boss, someone who will see her on a regular basis, and yes, he is an obviously aggressive catalyst that will only create more arguments and more discomfort for snypa down the road unless it is taken care of.

She told him that she only goes to this guy because he has experience and can give her guidance... YET, they stay out all night sometimes, drink heavily and she doesn't answer her phone. His advice and guidance is shit, and it's unfortunately that his wife doesn't see that. Isn't it the job of a husband to help protect his wife from danger? and vice versa in a good relatonship.

All I'm saying is, you are all right, the boss isn't the source of the problem. That lies within Snypa and his wife. However, that side bar is going to only make things more difficult in the future unless it is resolved. If you think I"m telling him to go beat this guy's ass, you're severely misreading my words.

That is very true Dr.

I'm just not certain that it would be a good idea to step in and talk to Tod at this point. Weather he wants her or not is completely irrelevant. Men want all hot women. The only reason we don't try to hook up with every good looking woman we see is morals.
When I'm out playing pool at a bar I see hot women all the time! Do I talk to them? Sometimes. But I never hit on them in any way because I know that this bitch might be a little freak in the bed, I have a wife at home that loves me and will be there forever, while this girl would only be a one night stand. Does that make sense? Of course it does! It is in every man's genes and maybe even women, not sure.
So with that said, fuck Tod. Your right, he probably has the hots for my wife and I know it. So do a million other men!

It all comes down to what my wife really wants. She says she wants to stay with me and build our marriage. She says she knows that she needs to talk to me about things and plans on it in the future. She knows how I feel about her going out as often as she does and says it's only because she's been mad at me.

All I can do is take her word for it and work on what I need to work on. Her future actions alone will show weather she really wants to stay together or not.

No, I cannot because Snypa is married to his wife with two children, and my girlfriend had been divorced from her ex for 3 years.  That's a pretty glaring difference to me.

Okay, we obviously disagree unto routes of action here, but I think we all agree that snypa needs to somehow make his wife see that she's in the wrong.  According to you, he should not confront a man who is attempting to move in on his wife and family because SHE will be upset over that?!?! Why are we so pissed off at her for not caring about snypa's feelings, yet we would be so upset if snypa did something that may upset her?   Poor her.

Tod would respect a man less who confronts him about his actions rather than a man just sitting at home night after night, calling repeatedly while she turns the phone off so she doesn't have to deal with it?  Come on now, which is less respectful?  Honestly?

Whether she is cheating or not, or planning to cheat or not, is moot here.  She is being deceiving toward her husband and needs to knock that shit off.  Plain and Simple.

I really don't care about gaining respect from Tod.
We now have everything out on the table. We both agreed that this is something that we've both thought about packing our shit and leaving over. We've also agreed that we do want to be together and that we're going to work on it. We both know the changes we'd like to see in each other and we both decided to work on those for the sake of a happy marriage. If these requests are ignored, we'll have future problems. Who knows, maybe she is serious and takes me serious. It sure seems that way right now.
I am hoping for the best while I plan for the worst.

How much time are you going to allow to sit back and observe her behavior? The choices we make in this moment inevitably create the rest of our life. I mean, clearly you will have to give her some space to decide how she is going to act, but how much time will you give her? What if she goes out tonight and does the same stuff?

When it comes to relationships, in my opinion at least, it is a choice being made in this present moment. In this moment, does she truly wish to be with you and spend time with you? If she does, then she will. If she doesn't, then she won't. Should she spend all of her time with you? Clearly not all the time (unless that is what you both want, nothing wrong with that ), but are you simply friends or are you in a loving relationship? How much time do you think she should spend with you when she isn't at work? 5%? 10%? 30%? 50%? 80%? 95%?

Ask yourself what you want out of this relationship. How we act is evidence of what we want. I just don't see this as being something that she will gradually figure out for herself... the more time she invests in her boss, the more that pattern will become set.

Its a delicate situation but either your relationship is working or it isn't. Communication is essential, and you've done a great job of following through with that, but what about action?

It really is as simple as this: The time that she invests in relating with others is time that she is not investing in you, and if she was interested in relating with you and spending time with you, she would.

A relationship is the set of interactions amongst two individuals - the choices two individuals make in relation to each other. There is no concept of how a relationship should be beyond what both individuals choose to make it be. Either you two can work together to have the relationship you both want or you both have different ideals of how the relationship should be, and all of this stress accumulates from the difference in what each other wants.

Think about what you want and think about what she wants. Talk about what both of you want. Hopefully it is similar enough of a vision to work - but don't hold out hope and pretend that its real when it isn't, like a girl with a Cabbage Patch doll pretending is real.

Break the fucking cycle, mate. Talk with her and say, hey, we need to truly figure this out right now, as we can't make this work from within the patterns we have set into motion. Talk her into taking some vacation, get some camping supplies and your favorite psychedelic, have supermarket babysit the kids () and take a week off into the trees together. You'll find your answer then.

That's all you can do, buddy. I didn't mean to change this into a scenario where it seems as if there is something definitely going on with this Tod guy. I just know his type all too well, or at least the type I have conjured up in my head, and I cannot stand dudes like him. I also worked in a restaurant/bar for 4 years and mine was a real sleazy shady environment. Hers might be completely different.

Like I said before, for some reason, I'm really pissed off about YOUR situation. I tend to do that, get wrapped up emotionally in other people's issues. It's always been a personal downfall.

That being said, you're a smart dude and you'll figure this all out and wind up in a good place regardless of what happens. Really, after all of that, my only advice to you is to be strong. I know you love her and I know how much she means to you, but sometimes you really have to strictly lay down the law in terms of how you see it. It's then up to her to understand where you're coming from... or not. You can't spend so much of your precious time trying to make her see, only to keep finding out later that she's not really trying.

Good luck bro. Keep the head up and I hope you checked out those online classes.
