Two different types of mushrooms found, need IDs.
    #6987980 - 05/30/07 04:51 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

Those are the two types of mushrooms found on my lawn. The first picture is of a mushroom we found its got kind of a upside down bowl head with a really dark center circle (the mushroom its self is a tan brown and the center part is a dark brown) that pops up, and the second picture is what the inside of that mushroom looks like. The 3rd picture is the 2nd shroom we found it has a cap for a top and its a tan brown, both of the mushrooms are still very small and they haven't got they're full color pigment yet. Anyways the 4th picture is the inside of that mushroom and as you can tell the inside of the mushroom is a darker brown then the cap of the mushroom. Can anyone ID the mushrooms for me and tell me if they're shrooms or not? Or even if they're safe to eat? Thanks.

Habitat: Growing in patches of grass on my lawn.
Gills: ?
Stem: Skinny steams, hollow.

Cap: ^^^

Spore print color: ?

Bruising: ?

Location: Southern Missouri US.

Follow the typical id format for seperate mushrooms take a spore print and better pictures and we would be glad to properly identify your mushrooms. I can tell you that you don't have active mushrooms if that is what your curious about. Without the proper id request we won't know anything else.

Good question.

The term 'shroom' is most often used to designate a psilocybin active mushroom. However, I have often heard the term used in reference to other desirable mushrooms: morels, agaricus, oysters, etc.

The regulars of this forum often say "[psycho]active" instead of "shrooms" to designate psychedelic mushrooms. I however prefer the term "psilocybian", because it more precisely designates only those mushrooms that contain psilocybin and psilocin, ruling out confusion with other kinds of psychoactive mushrooms that contain different drugs and produce different effects.

eraseandrewind64, your mushrooms are not shrooms, nor are they psilocybian. They are not psychoactive at all, nor are they desirable for food. The first one appears to be from the genus Xerula, likely Xerula furfuracea , it is distinguished from lookalikes by a taproot-like structure at the base of the stem.

The second mushroom looks like Conocybe lactea. It is one of the world's most common lawn mushroom.
