A Shroom Mutation Experiment

I this an idea after doing a Bio project on mutations, and was thinking about how it would effect mushrooms. I remembered the albino spores that P.F sells, and they said it was just a random mutation, as happens in nature every so often. So with this in mind, i think that if someone were to take a spore print, or a developing mushroom and expose it to large amounts of x-rays, the next generation of spores taken from this should have a large amout of abnormalities, depending how many x-rays it were exposed to. I have no idea how many x-rays this would take, or how you would sneek the spores into the x-ray room, but presumably the spores would vary wildly, and probably need to be grown on agar, and the resulting mushrooms would probably be infertile, but even so, this sounds quite similar to the P.F Albino, and maybe would have some interesting characheristics............I cant do this myself as i dont have the ability to get into the xray room, but i was thinking maybe others could try this out such as med students, or ask permission from the hospital or something, or maybe some people could suggest other mutagens that might do the same job...............
What are all your thoughts..............................?

You can do the same thing with UV rays. You can buy the lights needed easily just look for UV sterilizers.

search for mutation- this is not a new idea.. other suggested methods not listed here so far: Chemical mutagens Hybridization (theoretically possible, however not without an advanced lab) EM radiation (any light waves, this was already mentioned..) Direct genetic alteration (not possible with an extremely advanced lab, or not possible at all - yet)
my advice: be happy with what you have for now. Try a more difficult species..

your best bet would probably be petrolliates(sp?), they are known to casue genetic anomalies in a wide range of species. DinoMyc:

yes it's been done, do you eat Wonder Bread? Kellog's brand cereal?

Break a bone in your body, preferably a leg, then have a spore print in your pocket while you are being x-rayed. Would this do? LOL

its not that hard to make x-rays, although it could be expensive. Even so, you dont want to play with them.. they are rather high energy.. there is a reason, after all, why you wear lead vests when working in environments with possible exposure.. petroleum products can cause metation, however be careful.. you do not know if you might create something which would be undesireable.. it's allways a possability just be careful.. if it mutates it could do the same to you (i.e. carcinogenic effects in humans)..
