Hello, and nice to be the first to welcome you as a first time poster.I will start off by saying that fruiting off of cakes is essentially a beginner method of mushroom production. If you were to have cased those same cakes with any decent casing method, you would have seen a large increase in yields, number of fruits, and size of fruits. Here is a picture of a casing that I believe was made from 5 cakes.
I am sure there is a large difference between this, and what you got on your 5 best cakes. This should be the direction you want to go with your next growing operation, but congratulations on your first time success! peace camel

Yeah that is a great pic I loved it the first time I saw it over a year ago. Hey Camel where did you get the pic?...wasn't that on Ryche's site or was it on Shaft420's site?...I can't remember it's been so long. I think your right though, it was either 4 or 5 cakes. I do remember that it was associated with a method where the the cakes were cut in 1-inch slices and laid on a bed of moist vermiculite and then covered with a standard casing. But damn if I can remember who presented the pics. Hmm, any of you old timers remember?------------------ Peace, Love & Light [This message has been edited by Shroom Mage (edited December 30, 1999).]

Yes, shroomgod posted that a WHILE back (didn't mean to make it look as if *I* had grown those)... Just a visual aid to show the newbie what can be accomplished ... Didn't mean to make it appear as if I was the "guilty party" for making that fine casing Anyways, those were Equadors, and the casing layer was alowed to completely colonize and then was deep scratched to produce such even colonization of the casing layer. The casing was then first exposed to light when just before overlay could have occured and just after 100% colonization of the casing layer to induce so many, and such an even pinset... I shall post a B+ pic of shroomgod's (made when he was known as "blue helix") that he had which is currently posted on my site in a followup post... peace camel

84-86 degrees is the optimum tempature for the colonizing stage. So you should do just fine. Try not to let it get above 86 though.vivid
