Anybody want some? Such a bummer. Everything was going fine, no contams. I had just cased some colonized birdseed a few days ago and mycelium was just poking through in a couple spots. Well when I got home from work today, I noticed quite a few really small white dots on the casing. They looked seperate from the rest of the mycelium and as I kept scrutinizing them, I noticed one of them moving! I yanked the casing out of the chamber, and noticed that some of the others were moving too! It's times like these that I wish my camera didn't get stolen, because I would've loved to get some pics on the forum. Needless to say, I removed the casing, soaked it with bleach (just to try and kill the fuckers for ruining my casing) and brought it right out to the trash. I then disinfected the terrarium and sprayed the area with Lysol. I'm usually extremely sterille. Obviously not enough though. Oh well, it happens. Anybody else ever have probs with pests?

Yeah, I once cut a case in half and made mini casing in 2 big glasses. Then one day I found fucking tiny eggs on the inside of one of the glasses. I don't know what the hell laid the eggs. Luckily my other casings were ok.

Mites are a bitch. The only way to get rid of them is to destroy all exposed cultures, trays, etc. Clean with bleach. Then bugbomb the area. I got them from bringing in wild specimens into the lab.

I got mites once from using non-pasteurized worm castings from a friend's worm bin. Very stupid. Eight legs or six legs, the crawlies are the worst contam.
