Straw - is it time to case?
    #697801 - 06/24/02 07:34 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

14 days after spawning. The temps have been a constant 86 degrees, I've fanned every few days and kept the sides of the container moist. Should I case? Any suggestions for future straw projects?

My compost cake looked almost exactly like that a week ago. I've got 2-300 pins all over it now, no casing. If you're gonna case it, do it now, before the hyphal knots appear. Or just keep doing what your doing and it should fruit on it's own.
Up to you, but considering it's straw, not compost, you'd probably be better off with a casing layer. Probably peat/lime would be the right choice.

Anyone else?

Most likely it'll be fine. It was just my opinion that the optimal case for straw would be peat/lime/top soil, but you can use coir too. You'll most likely get better results with a casing of any type. But you could also fruit it directly. It's totally up to you. That's a great lookin' cake, it's gonna do fine even with the neglect tek.
