Contact Lenses

My vision has gotten to the point that I just can't use glasses occasionally and I need to wear contacts. The only problem is that in my left eye it fucking drives me crazy. Doc said that my left eye is drier than my right eye and it'll take some "wearing time" to build up to be used to contacts.
For those of you that wear contacts, how long did it take you to build a "wearing time" I've heard it takes a week to two weeks. How did you do it? How long did it take you?

Some ground chilli flakes will keep that left eye of yours nice and watery, simply put some under your eyelid before bed and first thing in the morning

i would not use contact lenses, im convinced they messed my eyes up in more ways than one.
No i have no proof of these but the mear thought of it will cause me to nevermore wear them again.
bottom line thow i would STRIVE to not use glasses or contacts...find the reason why your loosing your sight!
most likely its from stairing at one object for extented periods of time which results in your eye not having to focus much which in effect weakens your eye muscles and hence blurred vision from lack of focus.
notice kids vision goes bad about when they start school or at the latest 3-5 years into school?
its because they have to stair at the front of the class for 8 fucking hours!
but again i have no proof other than billions of people who seemingly need glasses all at the same time, but we call it genetics or some bs wheres the proof for that?

I don't like having to wear glasses all the time, gets annoying sometimes, but its a LOT less hassle than contacts. Contacts are just a pain in the ass.
I'm not sure about the "wearing in time", but I would suggest getting some prescription moisturizing eye drops to help with that. Contacts can really dry your eyes out and then its even worse to have them in, so the eye drops really help out.
I'm stricly a glasses man now though. The only time I'll sport contacts is if I go swimming or something like that, cause if I wear glasses, its either getting my glasses covered in water, or not being able to see at all without them, so thats a good time for the contacts. Sorry for rambling, I'm a little tipsy and pissed off cause my computer just got a virus .
Good luck with the transition

Your eyes need to get used to it.
I'm no eye doctor but you should read up on the subject.
When you wear contact lenses your depriving your eyes from the get go. Your eyes need to breath . Your cutting off whatever oxygen you would usually get to your eyes. Your eyes needs to get used to lenses. It needs to develop a habit of being able to go longer times without air contact. Like a person holding their breath, the more times they practice the longer they can hold their breath. Same with contacts.
When your eye gets cut off , it will grow something on the eye which will cause it to dry out. This is harmful. I think this is the same thing that grows when you get cataracts but not sure on it. The eye produces it from lack of oxygen.
You should really look it up, sorry I dn't know all the exact details, but I was reading up on this since I was looking into getting contacts myself (special effect lenses) .

What kind of contacts are you using? Acuvue has some called Oasis, and they're better than most.
Do you smoke lots? I've found that my pot habit has made it a bit more difficult to wear contacts.
You'll get used to it, it takes a little while, then you stop thinking about it.

Contacts work fine for me. You just have to wear them for awhile until you get use to them. You won't even notice them after a few weeks. Plus you could always get lasik eye surgery.

Get Lasik. I got it and it was the best decision I have ever made.

I've never had a problem with dry eye stuff, -unless- i have been smoking. That makes my eyes so dry that my contacts just fall out.
I believe that newer contacts, especially soft lenses allow water an oxygen to pass through (to an extent) and the health of your eyes isn't at huge risk.

I'm convinced that contacts are really bad for your eyes.
I wore them for a couple years, tried many different kinds.. they ended up causing me lots of problems, to the point I can't even wear them anymore. I guess my eyeballs are really sensitive or something, because I tried probably 6 or 7 different kinds of contacts and solutions and it was all pretty much the same.. irritation, redness, etc. Also I would get lazy sometimes and not want to take them out and clean them before I would pass out, which doesn't help. Glasses suck but at least they don't feel like it's burning holes in my eyeball.

blah, fuck all the naysayers who are "convinced" that contacts have fucked up their eyes. Bullshit plain and simple. Any problems associated with contacts comes from poor care of the lenses and improper hygiene when putting in or taking out. So if you don't take care of your contacts or wash your hands before taking or putting in your lenses, you're going to have problems.
I've been wearing contacts for 13 years now, my dad has been wearing them for over 30 if not longer, and the same with my mom and sister and the rest of my family. No problems on their end and these are people who used to wear the "hard" contact lenses back in the day which were a lot more difficult to deal with and were much more uncomfortable to wear.
To get used to your contacts you should wear them for 3-4 hrs a day for a week. After the first week up the time to 8-12 hrs unless you're still not comfortable with them. During the first two weeks you should pay attention to how your eyes and head feel, if you start experiencing headaches or your eyes start feeling tired, take out your lenses and give yourself a rest. This process shouldn't take more then two weeks, if you're still uncomfortable after two weeks you should consult your optometrist for a more comfortable lens or to find out why you're still having problems. When i first started out i was wearing my lenses for a full day after a week of getting used to them in 4 hr periods.
Good luck, it's a little weird at first putting them in, but after a while it becomes second nature.

It was always easy for me to wear contacts all day. The day they put them in at the optometrist I wore them all day. Make sure you practice good cleaning habits.

Lets just say that I know someone who is very high up in a company that makes contact lenses. I know more than my fair share about contacts. They're not bad for your eyes if you're responsible.
Shroomism: when was the last time you tried wearing contacts? They have a lot of amazing new contacts. Silicone hydragels are the new thing. With some of them, you can even leave them in while you sleep.
New contacts are designed with gas exchange and ion permiablity in mind. The new contacts are so breathable it's ridiculous.
I can teach you guys a shitload about contacts if you want. All I really wanted to know is how long it took for your eyes to get used to contacts the first time you started wearing them.

When I first started wearing them, it took maybe 2 weeks for the contacts and my eyes to feel completely normal and without getting headaches regularely from wearing them for too long(I get headaches regularely with or without contacts though, so don't say that I'm imagining that they caused them, cause the headaches were worse and more frequent until I was totally adjusted to wearing them)
Good luck man.
