    #6966623 - 05/25/07 06:22 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

Not the most detailed ID request but I think the img speaks for itself too

They are growing Outdoors in a woodchip area
Haven't yet but can take spore print

Just turning Autumn ,

someone mentioned they are psilosibe and i wonder if they might be active but i am not convinced ..
we would appreciate some opinion .. cheers

Can't really say much with just a vague view of the tops of some caps. You need to show all parts of them, or if not - fill out a detailed description.

hey 00ISI .. the great continent of New zealand .

there are some subs in one spot closeby to these photos
but in an extended search i have only found this single subs colony .

the subs look a bit different and dont have the bump on the top .

heres a pic of a couple of younger subs pins carried from the same area

The tops of the subs are nice mid tone brown and then they expand out to being flattened .. no bumps particularly on the surface and when flattened out the edge of the umbrella is less regular . These ones (pic above) have very very regular edges

i liked this example and someone mentioned opinion it was a cubensis , but i actually liked it and thought it resembled those beautiful flying saucer azures from oregon washington etc

Are they6 subs in your avatar OOISI ?.. they look very nice

They're certainly not cubensis, most likely subs. blueing on the stems and a spore print would confirm it. Next time you visit the patch get the gill colour, gill attachment and other details, the caps themselves aren't really useful to ID.

I've only found subs that are really wavy and not particularly umbonate, looking a lot like cyanescens. But they come in all shapes and sizes so the 'UFO' look is pretty common for subs going by finds i've seen on this site. I'm not sure what aucklandii look like so if there's blueing and a purplish print then they could be them also?

Yes i see a resemblance to the aucklandii as well (mind you , but not such a strong bump on top tho and i dont see the super strong irregularity of the outer egde of the umbrella ..

here is the classic erowid pic of the aucklandii

and a great pic from inski here showing the more dominant bell curve of the umbrella.

When I mentioned that they were active I figured that they were subs that you had already ID'd...

They look like classic subs to me. Lots of subs have 'nipples'. They don't look like aucklandii. Go pick them and get some more info on them.

So quick to discredit wortiesbo??...maybe if it's something you know nothing about then best not pipe up about it...

I have a strong hunch that the shrooms in the pic are Ps. subaeruginosa. Not sure enough to say 'yeah, eat them!'...but if I looked down and saw that, I'd be damn sure to be picking one up to have a look at the stem and gills to say the least.

Well i am not at all sure i found the same culture that was in the leading pic .. in fact i think i did not find it today but i found two others within a hundred yards

The one on the right being more the version with the bump on the lid and quite similar to the leading pic in this id thread .

I am a little bit surprised how these two cultures are so different .. yet so the same . Do you think "both" these are subs ? or is one a different variety ?

You can't tell subs or any other mushroom by their shape or colour alone. Shape changes constantly over the life of the mushroom and also depends on how stressed it was when it grew.

The relevant details are the ones asked for in the rules for IDing mushrooms threads: Gill attachment, colour, spore print, bruising, description of stem, annulus, base, smell etc. If those match then you likely have the same mushroom.

I would go out on a whim and say I would no doubt be very very certain those are subs. If I found them, I would DEFINITELY be picking them and eating them.

Bring on the flames... but guys - that photo is very distinctive.

Yeh...it just cracks me up that he took the photo of them but didn't take a closer look at them...lol...ah well, live and learn.

I will never forget the first time I looked down to the ground and saw the caps of my first subs. I knew before I even bent down that they were the right ones. They had popped out from the background of fallen autumn leaves.

cool .. there was more to it simply put zee ,

it is a very public place at times , and quite amazing in lotsof ways .

I now have about 30 litres of Liquid subs spawn from both the examples in the pics plus i am in process of re-locating two rubbish bags of active mycellium to a new spot .'

Slow to start .. yeah . In fact i found the culture there about 7 years ago and ate some then and there back then .. cannot remember much more but took me years to find my way back even theough im walking through there all the time .

You would be suprised and impressed with the site actually .
So now i have three cultures from the site .. one live on wood chips and two in bottles of water from the supermarket with malt sugar growing them . Its been about 5 days i suppose since the first one started and its looking speckled with lumps of mycelium like done all at room temperature . No hoods no sterlisation .. purchase excellent water from the supermarket like PureDew and scrape a piece of clean mycellium into the bottle , add half glass of heated mollasses/water screw top back on and shake .

bingo .. i wonder actually what it would be like to drink

and i wonder too if we can wash it somehow to extract the psilosibin  directly from the liquid culture .. or wash the mycellium while it is on the wood .

Heres a question for you . If the mycellium has psilosibin on it does any on this substance wash off in water ? , how about in vinegar ?
just a quick wash you understand then back to good clean living .

you can extract actives out of mycelium theres actualy an faq about it on the site somwhere under cultivation you should check it out, ive heard of ppl making tea out of spent cakes and getting effects from it on these forums aswell

try a quick search for "mycelium tea" or somthing along those lines, should find what your lookin for.

That would be pretty darn difficult. Hyphal networks can completely permeate the soil. Any attempt at performing an extraction would likely result in a disgusting broth not worth consuming, as you would also be subjecting everything in the soil matrix to extraction.
Doing this with pure cultures is a little different.

True , for instance tho - popcorn
(update/edit) we found a tek for it . Story was to grow myclecium in lc til food ran out , mycellium becomes more potent . Then dry and extract .

And these ones ..
not too far away .. over the ditch you could say .

Although these were not the same as the ID culture , they are in the same general area .. do you really think the classic flying saucer shape ones are the same species or is there actually good reason the consider 2 sub-species . The bell shaped one and the flying disk one .??

Last pic for now .. look at these pics , taken within minutes and within yards/meters of each-other . At similar shroom age , so why the difference in shading do you think .. how much light maybe?
