It is known that the lowest part of the jar takes the longest to colonize. If you wish you may flip the jar upside down, and keep it this way until fully colonized. This speeds up growth rate at the bottom. If you dont want to wait, you can birth it right now. It doesnt make that big of a difference.

Thank you for the help... but what i'm really wondering is this:

If i birth the cakes now, before the space inbetween the rhizomorphs on the bottom fill in (They are very small spaces), how likely is it that contamination will take hold?

That is definitely a concern...the uncolonized area will definitely be more suseptable to contams. Just cut the uncolonized area off and proceed as usual.
