Yes, it would kill the grass, but it would polute the soil as well. The best way is to cover the grass with plastic or cardboard for the rest of the year. Cardboard will eventually rot, but you may need to patch it in a couple places. There is no non-toxic and non-laborious way to get rid of grass quickly - use patience.

well basicly im thinking ill kill the weeds and im only worried about runoff...if it makes it to the lawn then i could just use gypsum to fix the ph right?
lime is natural and safe for everything but plants?

Lime will mess up the pH and kill anything that lives in the soil (there's alot). If you don't want to wait, use Roundup - it will be much less harmful than lime.

Well, give us a picture of your yard. If its weed central, you may not have a good way of clearing it naturally, unless you tore up and mulched the whole thing. But then you'll still be planting new seeds in a way.
If its just a few weeds, just pull those bitches up by the roots and feed the grass you want so that it'll get firm roots in that weeded area.
Lawns suck to maintain and personally i think they are immoral.
Also, does this go in science and tech? I'm not sure where else it would go.

lime is not a good choice for that. use roundup. it's really not that bad. it's a hell of a lot better than lime.
you're talking about doing surgery with a stone instead of a scalpel because the stone is more "natural".

corn gluten is a pre-emergence herbicide and doesn't kill healthy grass or anything up and living. I would use round-up. Or simpily cover it up with something you can remove or would degrade safely into the ground. What's so terrible about lawns? Having a area to beautify and maintain, such as a garden, which the lawn is an extension of is quit enjoyable to me.

The problem with a lawn is that it produces nothing and consumes a great deal.
We plant a crop onto generally fertile soil that takes a great deal of water to keep green, is often not a natural mate for the local climate, and bears no usable fruits. Yet we spend lots of money on poisons, maintenance, machines to cut and prepare the lawn(most of which are high pollution engines),and we spread good fertilizer on this crop. In the end what we have is something pretty to look at(not in my opinion) at the cost of lots of resources used to produce nothing but a pretty green effect.
Use your lawn with the local environment so that it doesn't get weeds or use it to grow some food or grow a nitrogen fixing plant. Whatever, i'm just tired of growing wasteful and useless plants.

i agree with you however i have no choice in the matter.
however i will tell you one reason why someone would not want to plant fruit bearing plants where lawns are, and that is most lawns are near roads which would polute any food that grows there.
lastly, grass does help "somewhat" in keeping soil from washing away

Glyphosate (Roundup) like Wilshire said.
Its very toxic to plant life but in the soil it rapidly converts to CO2, H2O and phosphate & nitrate, two fertilizing ions. So it kills the entire growth dead, but later on rather than a detrimental residue it even benefits the soil.
Lime works by wrecking the soil chemistry and will lead to fertilizer issues (alkaline soil) later on.

Well, depending on the size of the area you could kill weeds or grass by blocking out the sun with some sheets of plywood.
