Binaural beats??
    #6952902 - 05/22/07 07:31 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Have any of you used this brainwave entrainment stuff?? The idea is that if you place a pure tone of lets say 300hz in one ear, then stick another pure tone of say 310hz in the other ear while wearing headphones, your brain actually perceives the 10hz wave as it tries to make up for the difference in the stimulus. It then has a tendency to want to resonate at that frequency. So in theory, if you start at a difference of like 30hz which is 'normal', then step down 20, 10, 5... You can descend into the subconscious. Supposedly. I tried to make my own using a tone generator, but it just made me tired and slightly 'altered'. Anybody??

Yeah, I have a couple of the CD's from Dr. Thompson. Works great for meditation and even while tripping. Seems to give me lucid dreams with good recall, as well as help with going out of body. I have found them to be a helpful tool.

there is also a field in audio engineering called psychoacoustics. It basically works with the same concept - you play certain frequencies to the ear, and the brain will fill in anything it deems missing. It's great for simulating ambient spaces, bass, just about anything.

That's what I was looking for. I ordered the hemisync or holosync demo from the monroe instutue. I am hoping for the best.

i highly recommend this book if you are interested in Psychoacoustics:

MUSIC, COGNITION, AND COMPUTERIZED SOUND: An introduction to psychoacoustics

As for binaural beats, I have not found conclusive evidence that it can slip you into hypnotic, subconscious or otherwise states. I've tried, but have just sort of gotten sleepy and disoriented from hearing odd varying tones in my headphones.

Hey, it's possible.

yes I have experimented with this. I have made my own useing Reason software. It's really cool!. I find it very relaxing.

One thing I have done is use these in the backgrund of guided visualiztions.

Particularly in building the tree of life in the aura, up using the paths and back down useing the spheres. Friends of mine also really like this recording I've made.

To me it feels like a hand massageing my brain moving in and out. Very very cool!

couple of the hemisync discs are definately recommended. I prefer those without verbal cues.

Tone generators are dope because you can plan out what your trying to do. The lower the hz frequency, the deeper you can get. Typical relaxation settings will keep you between 8hz and 14hz (approx). This is considered alpha. We dream between 4-7hz (theta). And <4 would be your deepest states (delta).

I think of binaurals as just another means to an end. Meditation does a similar things. Psychadelics, ditto. The deeper states correspond with increase suseptibility [sic].

This is a general conceptual framework.

But yeah, tone generators give you the ability to set a range, and then you can export to .wav and mix with your own verbal cues, or text, or other music.

yeah, hemisync is cool.

Archive.org has some samplings, although little documentation on which frequencies are being entrained.

And interestingly enough, the film 28 Weeks Later, has several binaural segments in it, juxtaposed with somewhat violent and/or anxious imgaery.

I'll just say I chose to walk out of the theatre when I heard it....came back in a few minutes later. Took the opportunity to take a piss.

I try and be mindful about who programs me....

You can't always help it, but you can try and control it. LOL.

I've used them lots. I used to be a distributor for Voyager. They aren't going to make a big change for you but the're fun.

I have a binaural beat generator, but I usually get annoyed by it before too long, and so I've never listened long enough to feel anything more than spaced out and irritable.

They make you irritable, because they aren't using the right frequencies.

I've been experimenting with psychoacoustics for 10 years now,
and I just recently found a combination of frequencies that cause Level 2-3 Hallucinations after listening to for 5 minutes.

The sound makes me nauseous if I listen to it for more than 15 minutes though, I'm still working on it...

"Level 2-3 Hallucinations"

That is insane.

Seriously dude. The sound is stimulating my pineal gland to release small amounts of DMT, I'm really onto something...

Wow, yeah I've noticed a few movies that have that pulsing wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh binaural sound, huh.

Yes, it's interesting to note that the Earth itself (Schumann Resonance) resonates most powerfully @ 7.8Hz, right between awake and dreaming.

Hi Middleman. what is the name of the software you use to experiment with psychoacoustics? I have Reaktor 5, FM8 i could use for my tone generator, but I was wondering if you could tell me what has work for you from your experiance?

Ya those progs will work, I use ToneGen cause it's more precise... the key is in modulation. heh.
