the color changes on the actual shrooms seems normal enough... i've heard of it happening. look through the gallery here to see if you can find any matches. and the bluing is probably just the mycelium bruising, also normal, but they don't like being touched a lot so maybe watch out in the future.use perlite. i think the bubblers are kinda outdated tech at this point. especially for cakes where you just want as much humidity as possible, perlite will give you good results. ------------------ this time, the revolution will NOT be televised.

Yeah, I am using perlite, but read somewhere that it is good to put a bubbler in there for the gas exchange... Is there any truth in that?

The bubbler is used by some people for air exchange, ... you need to make sure its running long enough to be working. Don't mess with the filterbox, get a decent filter (like the of FP has for jar lids), and cut it up to replace the little filter on the bubbler. Its more important for casings than cakes, as casings contam more often. If your cakes are turning blue, I think PF's double-ended casing take can heal them. ------------------ I think the monkeys at the zoo should have to wear sunglasses so they can't hypnotize you.

If you are using perlite you realy do not need to add a bubbler, the only reason to add one is if you are lazy and do not want to fan out the co2 twice a day If youy do want to addd a bubbler use a bubbler stone and put it under your layer of perlite, but weatch your cakes for signs of over humification. . AS for adding a filter to the bubbler, F, that you do not need it. If your cakes are fully collinized they can take care of themselves.------------------ "The spice expands life, the spice expands conciousness, the spice is vital to space travel. Old method: Make a Tupperware box that holds the air pump and has holes in the side for the cord and air tube. Seal with silicone. Drill holes in top for air intake, cram top down with a coffee filter between top and Tupperware box. (See Ryche Hawk's page)Newer method: Use a HEPA vacuum cleaner bag, surround the whole pump with it. Seal end of bag where electrical cord and air tube go through with silicone. (MUCH EASIER) Why use a bubbler? No perlite to clean up.
