Fuck that shit, my friends mom babied her two puppies and they're rotten little shits. They ate my friends Xbox, all his games, books, socks, couch. There's nothing in the house not full of teethmarks and scratches and shit. They jump up on people all the time. If you don't train your puppies right you shouldn't have puppies in the first place.

EDIT: They still don't shut the fuck up.

You have two puppies.  Babies.  They're probably going to be spending the next 12 months, being rowdy, noisy, peeing on your floor from time to time and getting into your garbage.

They're PUPPIES.  You don't want to take care of them maybe you should give them to someone that does.   Apparently you've never had a puppy before.  It's not for everyone.

Yep.

Hitting them is not going to make them stop whining.

It will, however, succeed in making them fearful of people's hands. Ever see a dog that cowers when someone moves their hand for any reason? It's a pitiful site.

Are not paying attention?

IGNORE them until they stop. There is a very real possibility that you might not sleep for a week...but that's part of raising a puppy.

Do you ever actually spend positive time with your puppies? Aside from threatening them? Pets are not trophies. They need to be walked, played with, talked to, groomed. Maybe you should try and figure out why they are whining so much. Maybe something is wrong? Maybe they're bored, or lonely?

7 weeks old is a bit early for 2 puppies to be away from their mother. They're probably a bit confused as to where they are, and miss their mom and littermates. Ignoring them is definitely the best option. Make them comfortable in their crate with a bed, toys, access to water, and feed them in there so that they like it in there, and feel like it's their den.

You would accomplish the goal of making me not be nice anymore and you would likely be getting a beating yourself.

this goes for old folks and kids, too.

Be careful, there are guys out there like me.

You know I gotta be honest, I'd sit there and spark a jay and watch him beat his dogs, then I'd just leave and never come back. I tend to avoid drama situations, and I wouldn't get involved if it didn't have to do with me or my family, or any of our dogs. I would however consider him an asshole, and a risky associate, and would simply not ever return there anymore.

Bad news for those dogs I'll admit, but good news for me and my family.

I've disciplined every dog I've ever owned this way, this is just the youngest I have ever had one at. None of my dogs have ever cowered whatsoever, infact they would nudge their heads under your hands to pet them. I've usually been able to housebreak fairly quickly so I have never had to exert much force on them.

Edit: and I've had them for about a week and spend an average of 4-5 hours being active with them a day. So I think they just want to come out and play.

Whatever works for you, I guess.  I just don't see the point of hitting a 7 week old puppy for whining.

 This doesn't mean you should continue or make a good method of dog training.

You asked for advice and you choose to ignore it and not the dog. Hopefully someday you won't be so ignorant. A stern no is appropriate but the hitting does absolutely nothing.

I was thinking more along the lines of them opening the box, only to find a snake piercing its fangs into their wrist...

Like many others have said, you need to just ignore them when they do that so they will learn that is the time to be quiet and calm and no matter how much they whine, that fact will not change.

If you acknowledge that they are whining, they will know that it is an effective way to get what they want. If you ignore them on the other hand, they will eventually figure out that its not working, that it is a wasted effort, and they will stop.

I understand that you probably aren't truly beating your dogs and that many people (including myself) have over-reacted. But to those who DO beat dogs (as I'm sure there are a few of you here), keep in mind that while it may make them seem "obedient" temporarily, if you make a habit of it, chances are they will eventually attack you out of fear. And when an animal attacks out of fear, they attack HARD. In their minds they are fighting for their life, meaning they will not let up until they feel safe. And when that happens, there will be a high chance of an investigation as to why the dogs attacked you and you will probably be charged with animal cruelty. Endofrant.
