Re: Problems with dxm [Re: elbisivni]

Well back on topic, and a little update...
I haven't been able to beat the vicious cycle, but the amount of regret that I have at the time of ingestion helped me at least minimally. I realize now, that historically, I did not have a degree of trouble committing to the deed as I do now...
I spoke to the wife about it, and that I wanted to quit, and she reminded me that for the past couple of years, I have essentially replaced my bud habbit with dxm and that she would rather see me blow some dank in the evenings after work, instead of using dxm weekly.. Well, I took her advice into consideration and decided I would give it a try... I don't want to be a 'stoner' persay, but rather something like using a one hitter a couple of times in the evening just to get my multi-tasking brain slowed down enough to chill out..
Any reccomendaitons?
Thanks.

yeah sorry for getting off topic..didn't mean for it to get drawn out that long, just wanted to make a suggestion to a new member, ended up having to explain myself, getting defensive, blah blah..

anyway, I still think it's pretty sad that you're having such trouble with dxm.  it sounds like your existing along the lines of an alcoholic.  smoke some pot, demonstrate a little self control and don't go buying dxm.  tell the grocery store manager to put up a little sign of you behind the table that says "do not sell this man robitussin"

I'm telling you man, it's all about willpower.  Find something to do so that you don't desire to phase yourself out with dxm, find reasons to not be self destructive, to not feed your urges.

I too was addicted to dxm during highschool and it got me kicked out of school, for along time, and kicked out of my house, i could not stop using it until i started smoking cannabis and doing shrooms, acid, lsa, dmt, ect. because i had quit every thing and just replaced it with dxm.

Jesus Christ... A grown man with children and a wife... Doesn't that give you enough motivation to stop alone? Why would you start such a stupid thing when you have such a prominent life?

I feel sorry for you, but at the same time I find it pathetic that someone of your age and maturity lacks the responsibility to quit overdosing yourself on an OTC.

I think that's a really ignorant thing to say... What the hell does the fact that it's OTC have to do with it anyway? Anything in the world is psychologically addictive, and much more so DXM. It being OTC has absolutely no bearing on the matter that it's as addictive as lots of other things. Everyone screws up, dont beat him down for it.

About a year and a half ago i was doing DXM every weekend, but it only lasted about 5 months or so, till i decided to "taper" myself off. For someone at your stage, i guess just stop altogether, but i started limiting myself to once every other week, then once every 3 weeks, then once a month... after that time at the end of the month i felt no more desire to do it. I have tried it 2 times since, only to end up puking and feeling sick all night. Good luck, man.

Well, that's the point of this thread isn't it? The fact that I do want to stop?

Regarding my social status as motivation to quit, it is counterintuitive. Though the trips are lackluster, I am left with dopamine and sereatoin reuptake inhibition for several days after. Essentially, I am happy... After the effects of the drug completely wears off within a week, I experience some lows again. And, if you have ever had problems regulating seratonin and dopamine naturally, you will know that nothing in this world can bring you happiness when you are having problems with neurotransmitter regulation..

As far as thinking my situation is pathetic, I don't think the scenario merits the use of such a word. I'm not prostituting my wife to buy drugs, or getting high and burning my kid with cigarettes. Me and my wife are the most loving, and most responsible parents I know, and my kid is the happiest 4 year old I have ever seen. The only thing that is pathetic is someone that passes judgement on someone in a situation that they have virtually no control over.

With that kind of attitude you'll never quit. You are always in control.

Don't view me as a dick because I see the situation as pathetic...

Pathetic means; arousing or capable of arousing scornful pity.

Which is your situation sir. Good luck though.

if you keep on down this path dxm will ruin your life, my friend has permanent brain damage from his at one point daily use of the drug. He still struggles with an unquenchable need for chemical dependency. the best way to get clean is to just stop... eventually your cravings will subside, i also believe that LSD has a very good way of taking care of addictions, but more psychedelics might not be what you need right now.

remember that you are in control of your life.

i just read the first post but hopefully this still helps
