What is the minimum substrate depth for crumbled substrate? Using whole grain brown rice (9er tek except without verm.) What size pieces should I crumble it into?
How long does myc take to penetrate coir and become ready for fc?
I thought I read somewhere that coir goes lightning fast so how thick of a layer is recommended

Actually I think I will use a thinner layer, maybe half an inch because I read a quote from roger rabbit that said never use a casing layer over half an inch unless using four or more inches of substrate.

Casing layer yes but for substrate use I 3-5.

Read my pinning strategy those casings were made with a substrate depth of under 3/4". 2-3 inch is optimal and most efficient.

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

I vote 2-4" optimal substrate depth as well. Anything over that seems to be overkill. As for casing layers, stick with 1/4-1/2".
