What would be causing moss?

I've got four small salvia cuttings in pots, and also some other plants, all in my little indoor greenhouse. The temp fluctuates from around 70f at night to the low 80's during the day. The RH is usually in between 75%-85%, sometimes less, sometimes more. The soil I'm using is 50% miracle grow "organic" and 50% perlite. I don't water that often because the soil hardly ever dries out. Oh, and the lighting is from two 24w t5 fluoros, approximately 6 inches above the plants.
My problem is that in all of the salvia pots and some of the other pots have moss growing on the surface of the soil. What would be causing this and how can I fix it? I've never used fertilizer on any of the plants, should I? Thanks in advance for any help and input you guys have.

Moss is grown from spores. So its possible their are spores in the air or they get in your water and simply grow. I dont know how to resolve this though.

The way I might deal with moss, if I didn,t want it, put some black pebbles, or black sheet of plastic, with a place for the cutting to stick thru, the black should stop the growth.

I guess I could put pebbles in all of my plant pots, but I'd really like to know how else I could get rid of it. Is there some sort of "ideal" conditions for moss to grow in? I just figure that even if I put pebbles in the pots, moss can still grow on rocks...so it would be nice to find the reason for the growth, and then do something specifically against the cause of it. So if its spores causing it, how do I deal with them?
Anyone else have any ideas?

Well, I know its not necassarily bad, but I don't want it hogging the water. Plus it just doesn't look very pretty when all the perlite turns green . I put a little fan inside the greenhouse yesterday, so that theres some air circulation, so maybe that will help reduce the moss growth, not sure. Guess I'll just have to wait and find out. I guess its not a huge deal, I just figured I'd try to find out what the cause was.
Thanks guys.
