Season begins in SW FL!!!
    #6921583 - 05/15/07 07:37 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

Today after work, a friend and I went to my usual field to see if the last few days of rain have paid off yet. At first, nothing, but when we checked the actual open field part of the "spot", we found several big Copelandia somethings. They look exactly like the cyanescens, but for some reason they aren't bruising much. Any ideas on what they are, Floridians? These are from the Lee county area.

I don't have access to a good enough microscope tonight, but I'm sure enough that they're edible, at least.... The print is very black, and everything else is macroscopically identical to the C. cyanescens, but they don't bruise as quickly. If anyone has an idea of what the might be, I'd like some input because they're going down in about a half hour.

I know....it's not good to take something without being 100% sure of what it is, but I havn't tripped on shrooms since like, late August. Thanks, everyone!

I know, but I've had these before. I was pretty sure I had identified them correctly by how powerful they were, but I just want to see what others have to say. Thanks for the advice, though. Last summer I remember narrowing it down to where I knew it WASN'T dangerous....I just want to know exactly what these awesome shrooms are. I think I know what they are, but I havn't found any reports of them being in this area.

Hippie Chemist,

Perhaps you are finding the non-active dung-loving mushroom Panaeolus antillarum. Antillarum do not stain blue and are often confused with Copelandia species. They are not active. Very common.

People in southwest Florida do not start finding decent amounts of psychoactive shrooms on the cow pies until roughly around early June. Until then it is always very dry there around this time of year.
