I'd REALLY appreciate someone's reply on this. I do my best to answer posts that I feel qualified to do so. This is not some stupid newby question that could easily be answered by searching the boards and looking at one of the 100's of posts that come up on the subject.

hey I'm with you on this one. I could use the answer too. I just figured I'd give them some time though.

I'm fearing all those puffs are contams, though. Don't know exactly what cobweb looks like.. 92 humidity, misting occasionally. I figure give it time..
(I'm talking about someone else's setup, Lares, but it sounds close to yours.)

Where those puffs seeming attached to the spawn below?

Good luck. Hope you have some cakes going just in case.

I just had the same proplem,...with the same set up, as far as I can tell, hight humidity is definatley bad for casings.
In my case I took off the top mycelium layer, scratched it a bid and added another casing layer (1/2"), and stuck it back into the perlite terrarium, and stopped additional misting,
(I can hardly notice any condensation on the walls anymore!!), which I used to do. Since then I had a lot of pins pop up, and actually picked my first 8 huge shrooms today. Unforunatley they still only grow along the side of my casing containers, wich I don't know why, but at least I got so far

made my day today..good luck to you!

you might try letting the air get stagnant in there. mycelial growth likes CO2, thats why it works so well to just let jars incubate in a closed place without much actual air circulation for weeks. once you start getting fruit, you can vent them again.

Isn't 82+ a little warm to induce pinning? Mine did really well around 67-71 F.

Talked to Workman today, and he advised me that my main problem was the temperature, which I had begun to suspect and thus dropped the light cycle down several hours to reduce on heat from that. Came home today and I saw a good many sizable pins.
He also advised me to wait about 10 days after cold-shocking/dropping the terrarium temp to worry about a casing if it's not pinning. I was figuring I might just be impatient also.
Buffalo: I've had *too much* experience with cobweb and could probably scope it out in mere seconds. These tufts were unmistakeably mycelia; far too snow-white colored and fluffy and substantial to be cobweb. I'm not concerned about that possibility at this point, since I've been watching carefully for any signs of contamination, particularly since this casing was made from chunks of (seemingly) healthy mycelia cut from cakes that had small spots of contamination on them.
n8: Fresh, oxygenated air is one of the fruit-inducing factors. The casing had already re-established, maybe even growing out more than it should have, and I wanted to kick it out of the vegetative (colonization) cycle and into fruting mode.
As far as the high humidity, I have relatively minor condensation on the walls of the terrarium, and I'm not really worried about it being too high anymore. I don't mist, just have perlite humdification, since I've never had a problem with low humidity supplied by perlite, even up to the near-100% level needed by cakes.

Thanks, guys, for your replies. I was beginning to think that the message boards were becoming less and less useful and less of a community. I've been visiting and posting to the shroomery for about 2.5 years now, and it's often been a big help. I would have never started or kept up with cultivation had it not been for this site. In the time I've spent here I've seen all kinds of innovations go from a random idea bandied around to a tried-and-true accepted, proven method. (Perlite is a damn good example.) I guess sometimes 'oldskoolers' in any scene can get a little cynical about things.
