What I do is suck a shitload of rubbing alchohol into the syring, a little air, and shake it all around inside. Squirt out the rubbing alchohol, and rinse with freshly sterilized water (many many times). That seems to work... I just hope I haven't killed some spores, but I made sure it was all out. :smile:

i just get a little pot of water boiling really good and suck water in the syringe and then squirt it out. do that over and over again until it's really good and hot. then suck water in it one last time getting it all the way full. i usually then put it in the pot and let it boil with water in it for a minute or 2. then just let it completely cool. i know that this seems rather unsanitary, but i've never had a contam problem and have used the same syringe since i started.

Is it ok to pressure cook ur syringes?? It would be nice to just throw a couple in there next time I sterilize some jars :smile:

I believe the easiest way to re-use a syringe is to suck about 1 cc of tap water and then suck the remaining 9 cc's with air.

Put it in the microwave (without the needle) for about 5 mins (YMMV). The water inside will turn to steam and sterilize the inside of the syringe.

Then flame sterilize the needle with some alcohol and a lighter and you are done.

Im not sure how effective it is but its worked for me. :smile:

I've had no problems sterilizing syringes by taking them apart (plunger, chamber, needle) and pressure cooking them for 15 min.

I wrap the clean syringe in tin foil and pressure cook in the same pressure cooker i'm using to sterilize the grow medium. I also sterilize a small amount of water in a jar to use for the spore solution. The tinfoil helps keep the syringe sterile after you take it out of the cooker to cool.

I always just put my intact syringes in a pot of water (they float) and boil the hell out of them for at least half an hour. It's always seemed to work just fine.
