ok i have about 5 ppl including me investing in this venture so im looking to do everything in bulk. so my question is are large pressure cookers (30qt. or larger) impractical? would i have better results using a smaller PC and doing more batches or should i just go all out and purchase the monster PC i see on ebay? please note, cost is not an issue only time.

For this hobby you can never have too big of a pressure cooker.
You can also never have too many pressure cookers as well

Yur already getting lazy on jar prep. and you havn`t even started. Quote:

You can`t always buy your way out;hand your jars $20 and tell them to grow faster. Patience. Beginners are prone to mistakes; so beginners advice is normally start small until you master your procedures. So read alot here and you should be good. My vote is smaller pc; its worth the extra effort;small batches equal better quality control.

well you need to decide what size pressure cooker is good for you...
and what brand.
I wouldn't suggest getting anything smaller than an All American 921 pc.
All American pressure cookers are simply the best you can get.
You can find them new or used on Ebay.
A 910 can hold only 4 quart jars upright.
A 921 can hold 7 quart jars upright...with 2 more laying down on top.
A 930 can hold 14 quart jars upright.
A 941 can hold 19 Quart jars upright.
that should give you a basic idea... so you can figgure out what you want or need.

now do yourself a favor and buy a toggle valve to replace the weight on your pressure cooker.
the 930 comes with this kind of a weight...
get yourself the toggle relief valve...

thanks for the info.. im gonna play dumb here for a sec but the part info suggests a 23-28 psi blowoff. is that okay with the pressure cooker? i also noticed that it is for a steam sterilizer. just dont want to order the wrong part and ruin my new toy

If you have a weigh regulator type. Use a wrench & unscrew the nipple the weight regulator sits on. Then take a wrap around the threads of the toggle regulator. With thin teflon pipe thread tape. And, screw the toggle in the same hole. They interchange....
Toggles chirp around 25/26 psi; around 28 they hiss & higher, they whistle.

You only have to look out for the size of the pot if you have a small kitchen. My stove is in a corner and the bigger pots get to close to the wall to center good on the burner and not burn my wall with the heat coming up the sides almost took out my wallpaper the first time.
