Trippin' tonight! Questions and such
    #691848 - 06/21/02 04:48 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Trippin' tonight on 2 grams ! Can't wait. Unfortunately, I have to work a 6.5 hour burger-flippin shift beforehand... I think it'll be a good idea to shower. Anyways, I have an alterior motive with this trip... i smoke, and packs are $8 each in Ontario... do you guys think i can somehow meditate myself into thinking i dont smoke anymore, kicking the habit?

If you can't deep enough through normal meditation psychedelic meditation might help. But concentration is difficult mabye you should lower the dose.
If you really want to quit smoking ask yourself these questions:
1:If I want to quit why do I still smoke?
2: Is it the right time to give up?
3: If I do quit then what!?
Quiting smoking that dead tobbaco will is the best thing you can do for yourself, but sometimes people aren't ready to quit hence they stop for mabye a two weeks and in that time manage to piss everyone off because they can't handle withdrawal.
If you do quit you'll probably go through a dependency swap of sorts ie eat more, crave choclate that kind of stuff, don't fight it though feed your id just don't go overboard.
If you don't manage to quit this time don't feel downheartend, it just wasn't the right right time, you were not ready.
What may be helpful is whenever you reach for a smoke just be mindful of the act say to yorself "ok I'm going to smoke this cigarette now."
Concentrate on nothing but the action of inhaling and exhaling. Then ask yourself those 3 questions again.
We often smoke or take up some kind of habit in order to distract ourselves, distract ourselves from work, duty, pain or thought itself. If you bring thought back to the act, the cycle of habit (an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary) can be broken.

Good luck

I agree w/Ripple. I love to smoke both weed and cigarettes when I shroom. I don't think it's a way that you can hypnotize yourself into quitting.

If ur going to smoke something, smoke pot; smoke for a reason.
But i do understand ur dilema. I got my dad to quit, he just chewed a hell of a lot of gum. And then in like 3 months he chewed less gum. Then less, then less, then less.
Its a slow way, but it worked

For habits such as that, meditation is not really the answer... that is where a "mantram" comes along. Mantram meaning a word or a group of words that have been passed down from generations of mystics and such. Why use it? well it will draw upon powers that calm and heal you, silently repeat the words as often as possible during the day, each repetition adding to your physical and spiritual well-being You can think of it as this, like in India when they have festival days, you will often see a huge elephant carrying an image of the Lord on its back through the village streets. There is one difficulty though, stalls of fruits, vegetables, and sweets line the narrow, crooked streets, and the trunk of an elephant rarely stays still. When the procession comes abreast of a fruit stall, the elephant seizes a shelleed coconut or two, opens his mouth, and tosses them in. At another stall he rounds a bunch of bananas into his trunk. The people at the stalls cannot afford this kind of loss, so to prevent this the man in charge of the elephant asks it to grasp a firm bamboo shaft in its trunk. The point... well the human mind is rather like the trunk of an elephant, it never rests, it goes here, there, ceaslessly moving through sensations, images, thoughts, hopes, regrets, impulses. This is where the mantram comes to play, its for the times when you can't meditate, the mantram can be said anywhere anytime, it can free you from temptations, such as cigs. A systematic repetition can also improve your meditation, and so many more things. Gandhi himself used a mantram, his was just "rama", he repeated it for so many years, that it just kept repeating throughtout his counscienceness, and this is how he transformed himself.

here's a list of a few...

rama(which is the one i use)
om mani padme hum
jeus
hail mary
barukh attah adonai
allahu akbar

there is many more, some of the above have a religious hint to them, however the om mani padme hum is a buddhist mantram taht doesn't refer to god at all.

lol sorry for posting all this... but i just wanted to see if i could help people fight things such as cancer sticks:D

dude, IT CAN BE DONE!!! i quit a year and a half ago. be ready to fight your addiction for at least that long. i still crave em sometimes since my friends all go outside and smoke and i feel left out. the only thing is, when you've got a few weeks under your belt, you just keep saying " i've already quit for x long, why start again now and waste all that?". the longer you go, the easier it gets. as for the meditation, it can't hurt right? i think that if you really believe it helps, it will.

>If you do quit you'll probably go through a dependency swap of sorts ie eat more,

i'm not so sure that the eating thing is a dependancy swap. i think that smoking supresses your normal hunger, and when you quit it just returns. seriously, watch what you eat when you quit or you'll gain some serious weight...

my girlfriend quit for the new year she didn't just stop though for the first 2 weeks i wouldn't let her take a drag then after that she'll only take drags off of other people cigs she has bought a pack of cigs since the new year and now she only smokes when she gets drunk and hangs out with a big crowd. "But she dosn't smoke no more" I think its funny. I'm just glad she's not a smoker i hate fucking cancer sticks good luck quiting, just remember it is for the best of your health, there is no benifits of smokeing, and there are benifits for quiting
