Well...you can't take the sterile substrate out of the jars, or they will become re-contaminated. However, if you keep the substrate in the jars and inoculate them, you can wait for mycelium to grow, then crumble or slice the colonized mycelium cakes over a layer of verm/soil and cover it with a layer of soil. This is suggested in the Shroom Wizard's tek, located on this website, under How To Grow P. Cubensis. located here...Shroom Wizard's Grow Guide Just click the link ------------------ My mind is corrosive...

No, do not attempt to colonize the substrate outside of the sterilized jars. Contams will win out.

This is a definate NO-NO. If you wanted to try such a thing, you would have to sterilize the substrate inside the 'box'. Besides, it would take forever to colonize, your better off growing some mycelium on cakes, then casing them.. or using liquid mycelium techniques.vivid

Search the Shroomery for the 9er Tek. It is a method simular to what Vivid is talking about...sterilizing substrate in a tray covered with foil and innoculating thru the foil.Regardless of what method you use, you would never want to expose your cooked and sterilized grain to open air till you are fully colonized...to do otherwise would be sure death to your project. Good Luck. ------------------ Peace, Love & Light
