I'm checking out a show tonight and want to tape it because they allow it. Does anyone here have a good recommendation for some equipment? Im kinda going cheap.
Any Phish tape traders here with advice on this?

most of the Phish tapes were recorded on thousand dollar DAT rigs.
i've tried using cheap tape recorders, but got nothing but distortion...
i now use a Sony Minidisc Recorder ($150 @ ebay)
and a matched pair of Audio Technica Mini Omni Mics...
($150 @ www.soundprofessionals.com)
when i manage to find the sweet spot at a venue, and constantly monitor my levels,
i get a solid, spacial recording that sounds better than the DATs...
an MDR with stealth mics is useful for much more than bootlegging shows...

you mean tape trading?
i always wanted to get into that but didn't have anything to get started...
i got into Guerilla recording during Phish's last tour, i tried taping thier last two shows at Shoreline, but it didn't turn out. i used the MiniDisc at Phil Lesh w/ Disco Biscuts; i sat behind the board w/ the Pros. One guy said "If you bring your own cable, the BOH engineer might patch you straight into the board." i have yet to try that...
know of any good trading sites?

Its all about the microphone.. Tape records as good as tape can, mini disk records even better and DAT well you cant even touch true DAT yet so it all boils down to your mic. and how close you can get...
