Sterile mushrooms (sporeless) <pic>
    #691520 - 06/20/02 10:04 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

Here is a very nice looking P. cubensis (ecuador) fruit showing sporeless gills. The mushroom is probably 10" long with a stem width of 1" at widest, 2" cap diameter.

Anyway, this batch has all shown degenerate genetic characteristics when fruiting. Most fruits show slow growth and abort before developing fully. The few that have developed produce no spores.

Is there anything that can be done to get a fruit to produce spores here? I've heard that sometimes a first flush will be sterile and then subsequent flushes produce spores. I've never had all the fruits be sterile like this. The fruiting growth being so poor is also not too great.

Theres probably nothing that can be done. Its just Darwinism at work. I'm just sharing for those interested, or for those who've never seen this before. BTW, potency is quite high!

No, you wont be able to force a mushroom to release spores.

In reply to:

Give it another day or two before thinking they are all sterile.

Wouldn't you know it... "You are correct, sir!"

Now I look like an idiot. It is now dropping spores days after the veil broke. I have always seen almost zero delay between veil breaking and spore production. Guess thats not always the case. My bad assumption.

Thanks to your friend's dog! (well I found out before seeing that post really, but hey).

dude man, that ain't sporeless at all. you just aren't waiting long enough. See the drinkles in the gills? when those straighten out and trun darker (about 6-12 hrs after your pic w/ Eq's) then they are ready to print.
