what honey did you use, it might be some preservatives that percipitated out and didn't dissolve, also in the other posts I've seen, a very small amount of honey was needed, not even a teaspoon....

I used uncooked, "natural" honey. it didn't have any preservatives in it, and the mycelium seem to actually enjoy the debris' company. I'll post if anything changes.

Well, first of all 40 minutes is a bit too much. Anyway, it might me that some of the honey melted/boiled than become solid again, but not as honey, but as waste...

Later,
tweedy.

What you've done is CARMELIZE the honey by cooking it for way too long. 15 min at 15psi would be more appropriate.

If the solution is milky after only two days I'm willing to bet that you have a contaminant (most likely yeast).

Mycellium grows in fuzzy clumps and doesn't make the solution milky

Psilowarrior, I must agree that vivid was way too long on his sterilization and way heavy on honey for h2O used. but dissagree with you (at this point) about milky appearance. If by milky he means whitish cast and small bits of white matter in mixture he has been successful in creating a solution that will grow shrooms. At least I hope so. I am going to inoculate with my solution (which he has discribed well) and may eat my words later, but would rather eat shrooms.
Vivid it may be that you have just a bunch of junk that the honey traped from the air (Lint) in your jar. I wouldn't worry too much till it proves to be a problem....leggy
