This is what aliens will see should they receive the capsule we sent out into space. Do you think they'll understand any of it?

Are you referring to this:
-------------------- Republican Values: 1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you. 2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child. 3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer. 4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Hard to say, all our knowledge about intelligent life comes from a single sample. Their perception probably isn't the same as ours and the photographs might not convey any meaningful information. If they use echolocation or sense magnetic fields then recordings of our visible spectrum might not have a lot of meaning, even if they figure out how to properly decode the information. It's like asking could a blind person make sense of a picture? Maybe, but not in the same way you or I would.

That's from Pioneer, he's talking about the Voyager Golden Record.
They only included a silhouette on that craft because people are prude.

This seems like a very stupid and unthoughtout package to have sent as representing us. What if the lifeforms it reaches happen to be giant fish? Well then, we just showed them a picture of us grilling a dozen of their distant relatives. What if there is no great species gap on their planet, as there is in humans compared to other animals here? That picture would be showing us to be savages.
A better idea would be to have written out a positive yet not pretentious message in a basic-structured language, and then also present that same sentence in pictures which would be expected to give common meaning.
Also, if the race it reaches wants to attack us, we've now given them knowledge of our life-type, including DNA and reproductive systems.
I think this package was fueled by some humans' over-inflated sense of what they are, and what their culture is - trying to impress not based on what we are but what we've done. The sappy sentiments of some of those photos are not going to keep their culturally-conditioned meanings once they leave the orbit of this brain-dead society.
I think that depending on whether the recipients of this package are more or less advanced they will either freak out or think we're idiots. We should've just sent a bunch of porn.
Well, so maybe not porn... but this package gives a really mentally-handicapped picture of us, and its clear the designers thought they were being intelligent, tho actually merely pretentious.

By the time this spacecraft would be able to reach anything even capable of maybe deciphering it humans will either be long gone, or a very present force in the galaxy/universe.
I'd bet on the former

But think of it the other way. If something similar were sent to us, we'd be like, "Holy crap! It's a picture of something that appears to be intelligent! There are certain values in that picture, written next to symbols...language perhaps? Numbers?"
I think it's a great representation of the human race. It's short and to the point.

Many humans would find it hard to wrap their minds around the initial definitions set forth there... even though they allready recognize the human system being explained in them.
I'd think an extraterrestrial life-form would be positively dumbfounded... there's nothing even remotely resemblant of a rosetta stone in there.

I agree on that one, but there's really no way to translate something from Eath to [unknown] We should definitely send out more though. I wonder if just straight binary would work. I mean it's the simplest form of communication: On or off. Yes or no. True or false...
