14 gallon fc humidity question
    #6897977 - 05/10/07 02:13 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I'm going to be using a 14 gallon rubber maid container for an fc. Its a taller container I would estimate the dimensions at 14 inches tall by 14 by 30 inches. I previously used an fc made out of the exact same style container and I cut 4 holes on each side and filled them with polyfill. I used about 2.5 inches of perlite and my humidity never got above 85%. Needless to say it was not a very successful fruiting period for those cakes. I have a few more jars ready to birth and I plan on using the tub without holes and just fanning often. I DO want my humidity 95%+ do you think 4" of damp perlite at the bottom of the container would take care of that? Input please.. My jars look beautiful and I want them to fruit to the max.

Yes the perlite will work, 4" will work perfectly fine. As for the polyfill. Don't use it!!! just cut the holes, you'll be okay

Oh and make sure you have a drain hole at the bottom of your FC you don't want standing water

yeah I plan on using a buddies power drill and drilling probably quite afew small holes all throughout the tubs. One other question. I have my tubs sitting on carpet should I still put drain holes? I dont really care about the carpet I just dont want any contams comming up from the floor.

Put your tub up on something!! don't leave them on the carpet as every else will tell you 90% of the contams come from your floor!!!

Elevate them use crates if you have to, and you'll be fine

Your humidity will be fine with 4" of soaked perlite. You shouldn't slack on your FAE though, imo it can't be stressed enough. Drill those holes.
