This simple 'idea' that every single adult in America needs a car is ridiculous. I hate laziness, and i hate the fact that...especially in my home town...everybody drives everywhere, even if their destination is a 5-10 minute walk. It's stupid self-importance. All of these people are in such a big damn hurry cause theyre time is sooooo special. Millions upon millions of people drive to work and back every day by themselves, and then they scream in traffic because everyone else is doing it, too.
there are too many cars.
..too much laziness.

I keep hearing all this shit like "if 10,000 Americans would stop buying gas for one day, the oil companies lose X amount of money". I say we should all have one day where we all sell our cars and buy bikes. Than when the prices go down, use that money and buy a new car.

First of all, American oil companies refuse to invest money in a new, clean refinery while they're raking in record profits. They have no government pressure to do so, so they continue making gasoline with their grandfathered, dirty refineries.
Umm..... okay?
This is in fact quite an important point. One of the underlying factors leading to record gasoline prices (even as barrels of light sweet crude oil are about 25% off their highs of last year), is the refinery bottlekneck. There is a lot of environmental and political concern when implementing a new refinery, which in turn has made the integrated oil companies reluctant or unable to build new infrastructure since no one really wants a goddamn refinery in their backyard. I'm not sure on the exact figure, but I do believe it has been decades since a new gasoline refinery has been built in the United States. As a result, even if we are flush with crude oil, we simply can't refine the stuff fast enough to ease the supply strain created by our oil hungry economy/society. Supply and demand forces are strong at work here, and until we start building new refineries, you're probably not going to see our prices easing significantly.

It has nothing to do with a conspiracy, UFOs or any other silliness.
It's the Law of Supply and Demand. Get over it.
Until gas becomes more expensive than bottled water I'm not offering any hugs.

lol I drive I chevy big block 350 engine, my caprice classic loves the gas. I spend a good $20-40 in gas a week. But that's because I choose to, the day it gets too ridiculous I'll just get a bike.
But then again it's my chevy and I wouldn't wanna give it up.

No, we actually pay MORE to the oil companies than Europe, even though we have economies of scale in the US. Remember, taxes are paid by us back to us. Here's an article I read today that explains how this works.

I'm not arguing that. But when I go to the pump and I get 10 gallons, I am immediately paying more than someone in Europe who gets 10 gallons at the same time as I.

Either you must live in Saudi Arabia, or you're getting fucked up the ass by the water bottle companies.
