Waking up Enthused
#6890173 - 05/08/07 06:10 PM (16 years, 10 months ago) |

I no longer wake up enthused every day. Im not sure when this changed happened. I remember as a kid, even school was something to look forward to and especially the summer days. It is such a daunting indicator that I have become complacent with life and everyday is the same shit, just a different pile.
Which I dont understand, I am still a happy person, but I just dont wake up with the zest and hope of a bright new day that I used to have.
Is there anyone here who can honestly say that they get up every single day enthused?

Hmmm...I don't remember waking up enthused every day, even as a child. I've always been a dreamer, and reluctant to face the "duties" of waking life.
Though I seldom wake "enthused," I do generally enjoy my days. Perhaps I'm just slow to warm up?

I apply the maximum amount of motivation that I have available every day.

Do you remember having any dreams at all? How do you usually feel when you go to bed? Exhausted, sleepy, anxious? Or how?

Hey, try doing some jogging before going to bed, like for half an hour or so. Your body could retain some toxins which have a HUGE influence on your ability to get the proper recuperation from sleep. Toxins also influence your mind set dramatically.
Also try to keep a diary and white there only what you think you must remember about your mind frame and then re-read it and see if you notice anything at all (like the same thought coming over & over back at you, impulses and the like).

Some days I could say I wake up enthused. Most days I wake up calm and content. Now and again I wake up cranky and sore and tired. The latter have become fewer and fewer since I got out of the hell of teenage-hood. Thank god.

No, it means that you have to start analyzing yourself and see what causes it. You probably have some bad and weird-ass drams that exhaust you like that only that your mind keeps you from remembering them as a measure of protection.

It probably just means that you're not particularly inspired or stimulated by what you are currently doing with life. Maybe you need some new challenge. It sounds like some soul searching may be in order. A trip to the mountains?

I go from a few days to a week enthused, to long periods of not being enthused. I try to maintain it when I find it, though.

enthused This word sounds funny. Say it out loud a few times.
Anyway I believe the reason we were more enthused when we were young was the fact that we didn't have as many programs running and we didn't have as much internal dialog seperating us from the world of wonders.
It's quite sad really.

Seeing how children act now that I am older, they seem to have much more spunk than I remember having as a kid.... But, my parents tell me that I was the same way at that age....
Musta~ been the Flintstone vitamins....
It could be the programming, and it could be that when we are younger, we had much less responsibilities....

That too. Yet I have few responsibilities anymore but don't wake up like a kid. Still that could have something to do with available energy.
You start off fresh like a loaf of bread right out o the oven. But as with bread maybe we get stale emotionally also. I remember a study done on bears in the wild. They found old bears to be cranky.

I feel ya man. When I was a kid my emotions were way different, the world was bigger and had a different impact to my perceptions. Now that I see things at eye level, I'm dissatisfied with objects and I've become dispassionate towards things. This is a sign of maturity. When we are young we cling to the outside, when we have seen the outside and become dissatisfied we look within.

Everyday i wake up i say "thank you". I feel as gratuitous as i possibly can. Just waking up is a miracle of life.
Of course if your feeling down, you could always be a 65 pound south african starving in 105 degree weather with no hope for anything called a life much less a sandwhich.
you're blessed.

yesterday i slept (meditated) at 4 p.m. or so (reclined on my couch and focused on breath but still sleeping) got up and ate at about 6
"meditated" again and the sleep came
went to bed at 7:20
got up at 9:49 because the birds were singing a bit too much for me to continue ignoring.
this is not normal but it is nice to be in that state where you exist but without boundaries or a firm ego. yet it would be nicer to push through to the other side, leave body, and learn. i did leave body but it seemed a bit cheesy.. a black man was in my bed, some sort of gathering of people in my house, the house i was dream sleeping in, but not the one i was really sleeping in
i went into space but there was a star wars situation going on with imperial ships.... aware that this was not the most pleasing or realistic of situations.
i made girls trip and fall over me and we had apple juice because i was some young child in some sort of cartoon like program who was a bit too young to know about sexual things...... i went to a concert.
how do these things and these very existent realities escape us so quickly? as soon as we are out of them it's like we were never even there....... yet the same can be said about the waking world.
i do not wake up enthused per se because these worlds are more entertaining, people are generally more than willing to spend time with me, its quick and easy to run into those i want to see, do what i wish, manifest what i wish, the downside is the realism is lacking generally
but i wake up and go back to sleep, and wake up and go back to sleep, and wake up and go back to sleep
i think i only wake up enthused if the sun is shining in my eyes but my apartment does not allow this, and it is most regrettable.
-------------------- I am the MacDaddy of Heimlich County, I play it Straight Up Yo! ....I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human...... Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

That seems to be part of it. One of the other threads was about getting old and I mentioned a friend's definition of getting old. Another friend told me a few days after that: getting old is realizing your dreams are dead and you've become useless but you try to stick it out anyhow. He gets up at 11 am and hates his situation.

If you worry about waking up enthused, then it will never come to you.
It is my experience that we lose our enthusiasm as we age to the increasing number of our desires, both fulfilled and unfulfilled. As a child, there's so much to see, and we see it all without filters of money or power. But as you grow older, you start to see the world "as it is" (actually, how you're conditioned to see it) and some people start to worry constantly about their money, their family, their decaying bodies, anything in the world they've been unthinkingly conditioned to attach themselves with. How can you wake up happy when you have all that to worry about every waking moment?

Why try to stick it out? This reminds me of Buckminster Fuller's story: he was 40 maybe? I'm not quite sure; but he decided he was a screw up - his dreams were dead and he was going to kill himself. He walked out to the bridge and said wait - the average lifespan is 50, I have 10 years I could throw away, or devote completely to the rest of humanity. He made contributions of epic proportions with his inventions and ideas before he died.

and some people start to worry constantly about their money, their family, their decaying bodies, anything in the world they've been unthinkingly conditioned to attach themselves with. How can you wake up happy when you have all that to worry about every waking moment?
Right. Worry becomes the pattern and lifelong patterns don't just float away at retirement. I watched my mother who hid much of her worry patterns go insane before she died. She became afraid of things she never even considered when she had more life energy. She was afraid of dying and so germs terrified her in the end. Everything did. All she could do was complain and worry about every single thing she had no control over. She died as she lived. In hell.
