"spent" cakes

What, if anything, can you do with cakes which have stopped growing mushrooms? Do you usually just chuck them out or can they be used for something else?

i live in an apt. and i just crumble mne up and throw them under the pea gravel outside....water occasionally when no rain is around...i have gotten many a shroom, but very small ones...you could just put them in some tall grass in a shaded area and water and see what happens...got nothing to lose...

If the cakes are just "spent" and not contamed you can try and throw them outside somewhere and hopefully you can get something out of them. If they are contaminated then it is probably best to throw them out. There is also another post recently that says to crumble them on the perlite for another flush. Look for it.

orrr, you can put the cakes outside somewhere and water occasionally to see what happens!
