Success with coco coir tek?????
    #6878547 -

What kind of success do you have with the coco coir tek?
That's plain coco coir inoculated with pf substrate.
I want to know how mant flushes you average and what species you grow and about how many mature caps you get from one bulk cake!
I'd also love to see some pics too!
Thanks a bunch!

hard to say since alot of those are subject to specific temps/humidity light etc etc i find it better than straw since it can hold alot of water but worse than hpoo

I never spawned a cake to coir and I also never counted how many mushrooms I pull of a tray so I cant help you there, but I can tell you this...It will go two good flushes, they third is weak, you will get just a few mushrooms.Sure some of them are big but I still like the idea of tossing them after the second to clear up some prime real estate in the greenhouse.

Once you get your cycle down you can always have casings waiting to replace the old ones, again there are two many variables but as long as you are prepping jars when you are tossing spent casings and replacing them with new ones the thing is a virtual mushroom factory and I am not lying when I say you can have mushrooms to pick on a near daily basis, again your time line may be different so tinker all the variables to figure out what works best for you, yours may grow faster since I incubate at room temp,or yours may be slower cause I almost exclusively use nice thick lc over multispore syringes....hope this helps at all:thumbup:

Ok, what can I add to the coir (that preferably, I can sterilize without pressure cooking)to get more , bigger , better, flushes?
Thanks.

Nothing really, some people use coffee but thats your own preference.  Success depends on you and how much care you give your project, the same with cakes.  Like blut said, 2-3 flushes are avg.  As far as yield that also depends on you and how close to optimal you keep your conditions but either way a tray of bulk is going to yield better than a few cakes.  Strain is also up to you,  just whatever you like.  Everyone uses something different.  But to sum it up, coir is good.

If you have the ability to pasteurize (a sealed 5 gallon painters bucket w/ mesh strainer and some hot water) then you can make a compost mix. I use a mix with mainly coir as a base b/c I like it better then using a mostly poo base.

I make a decent mix of a lot of coir then some hpoo, cow poo, worm castings, some coffee grounds, 1/4 cup or so of gypsum and a good pinch of hydrated lime. I often throw in 8-12 cups or more of some vermiculite as well for moisture retention. Good luck!

Teonanacatl, open up my eyes
This sacrament, this prayer, beyond the world of lies
Guide me clearly through that which I dont understand
Give me strength to find the path
Help me fight any demons as you flow through me wholely
This is my prayer, that you protect me from evil, and bring me closer to peace
And open up my eyes, so i can see things as you do
Amen

In the past I have pasteurized some horse manure I bought in my local gardening store and then cased it with coir and vermiculite with some calcium carbonate added for ph control. The other times I have done it the results were great with one 30g (wet) baby as my star piece (grew after I forgot one of the containers in a closet)

I am using this mix again atm and it is giving great results so far. It is the highest yielding mix I know that doesn't require a pressure cooker (pf cakes spawned to dung with coir/verm casing) and I don't even microwave the casing mix myself, I just am very clean while mixing it up. No contams so far.
