Squeezing the lemon

For all you cake growers out there if you want to squeeze one to three more flushes out of your cakes heres a tip for you.
Once your cakes seem to be done flushing break the cake up into small pieces and spread evenly directly on top of the perlite in your terrarium (assuming you are using perlite), mist thouroughly, check back in a week or two and you should see new pins. You can get up to three additional flushes from your cakes. Its casing for beginers and it works!!!

heh, that sounds like an interesting idea, you could probably just take the spent cakes and make a casing out of them too, right? do you think you would get more with your tek, which does sound like a cool hassel free way to get a few more mushies, or do you think casing them would better?

You would probably get better results with a traditional casing.

The problem is that the mycelium has been in fruiting "mode" for so long it probably wouldnt colonize the casing layer good enough to have a nice flush.

actually this is what i did recently: i made 4 half cake lipi yai casings. two seemed to be crapping out. i took them, crumbled the mycellium, then tossed in tupperware with sterile coco. then i put it on a heater for 1 week and nothing grew. i also did this with a cold shocked dunked cake. i figured " ahh fuck they are both in fruiting/pinning mode and it wont grow. i opened the two tupperwares, scooped out extra coco (still some clinged to it) and put them both on two seperate paper plate in my terrarium. the mycellium in about 24 hour exploded. its devouringf all the spare coco! im thining of tossing a little more on to even it up.
