Harvesting with scissors

I have a quick question. I've been reading, mostly on this forum, and I can't find a definitive answer. Is it okay to cut a mushroom out with scissors?
The reason I ask is that the base of one mushroom appears to be covered in mycelium. Another mature mushroom has the same sort of thing with pinheads on the thick part (the part with mycelium) of the stem. So can I cut down to where the mycelium is on the stem, or can that cause contamination and ruin any chace of anything growing there anyway? I just don't want to curtail potential growth.
If you HAVE harvested using scissors, have you ever personally experienced contamination?

It probably won't be a problem, but mushrooms come off most cleanly by grabbing the base and twist and pull. Make sure to twist while pulling, or you might make a big crator. Don't worry about pulling off some pins or whatever, there will be plenty more. It's normal for mushies to have that mycelium fuzz all over em, so what exactly is the problem ?
It is hard to get all of the mushroom with scissors, and that does increase the chance of rotting and or contamination.
Do what you like though.
Did I answer this the way you wanted?

A sharp knife is better because it doesn't pinch the mycelium at the base. Cut just above where the cluster has formed. The remaining stump is 100% mycelium and will NOT rot. RR
