Iris (atleast purples ones) smell like grape or is just me?

I have some purple Iris in my front yard, and never smelled them before.  Well I did today, and they smell amazing, and I think it's a grape-like smell, but I thought it might be placebo since that's what I'd expect since it's purple.  Anyway, anyone wanna confirm my suspicion? 

*I then ate a petal, which didnt please my taste buds, but the stamen tasted kinda good, like honeydew almost.  Is it weird that I taste random plants? :crazy:
