Gregarious on brown clay soil partially covered with pine needles of Pinus radiata. I've read the Magic Mushrooms Guide of Australia and NZ a couple of times and everytime I read that it makes me wonder "what the hell am I doing wrong?" I've been out hunting a few times, and never seen anything that resembles aucklandii, or any active species.
