a quick id request

hey guys. my friend picked this and was curious as to what species it is. i have no knowledge of what it could be so i was asking for an id request





Habitat: on a pile of dog shit in a field of grass
Gills:white, yellow, brown
Stem:white,yellow, slightly enlarged at base, 1 cm wide
Cap: white, small brown spots, large brown flakes, 2 inch in diameter, 2 inch in hight
Bruising:yellow to brown
Location: southern texas

It is hard to be sure without knowing the spore print color, but it looks a little bit like Panaeolus semiovatus.

I was actually thinking more on the lines of a Lepiota. Look at that ring where the cap is separating from the stem. Looks pretty substantial. And the stout, reddish stem. Plus the gills look whitish. Could be a Chlorophyllum molybdites as well. In any case, a small reddish lepiota or chlorophyllum you should consider as very poisonous. And whatever it is, it is definitely not active.

amithesecretary, try slicing it in half longitudinally and take another picture, that will help us ID it for sure.

edit: oh, i didn't see that you said the gills were white to yellow. I definitely think a Lepiota, and possibly Chlorophyllum molybdites at that - you should consider it poisonous. Definitely don't eat!
