And if so, how hard have you tried? Methods, settings, etc.

not saying I wish to experience, just wondering who has, and who hasn't.

to me, ego death is a sudden realization you're not everything you used to think or have been taught that you are.

you aren't "you" in any conventional sense. Just merely a form of energy existing. It's momentarily frightening/reality shattering, but then feels like a comfortable state of being once you accept it.

very strange.

I achieved this a few weeks ago for the first time....I ate 7.5 grams, probably wont eat that much again for a long time.  a 5 gram trip is much more comfortable for me
It is truly really hard to explain, I felt like all the norms and standards programed into me just disappeared and when I thought of some things that I associate myself with, they didn't connect and I no longer associated myself with those things.
However, I never like forgot what my name was or anything like that.

But....While I was peaking I was in a dark room under covers, and I wanted a cigarette but had absolutely no idea of how to go about turning the lights on and lighting the cigarette.  I tried looking for the light switch but ended up smacking my head against the wall, then I quit

sorry for the rant

This sort of shit just happens.

Ego loss has varying degrees.

I never forgot who I was or how to tie a shoe, I had better things to do while seperated from my self and body though, so I never tried to remember those things.

I wouldnt have tried to determine if I was experiencing ego loss ever.
Ego-loss basically makes you not give a shit about whether or not you are in it that deep.

I dont consider utter confusion to be ego-loss or ego-death.
I consider that to be confusion, and when people strive for that in the name of some concept such as ego death, I get a bit sick.

When your self begins to dissipate, you are there to some degree.

When overminds take over, you are there to some degree.

When you cant remember your name, you can bet that there are better things to be done in that place instead of trying to figure out your personality all over again(including your name). That would only mean you were hanging on to your ego and even the concept of ego loss.

I wouldnt prepare for it.
Id just be alone is all.
It happens with a good friend too. I just dont prefer that.

I wouldnt put ego-loss/death on a podium if I were yalls.
There is alot to be learned when part of the self is still relevant to you. Even then there is some degree of ego-loss.

This shit even happens when you drink, but its not as complex and it cant possibly take you as far as psychedelics.

I just wish more people had a handle on what ego loss really is.

It certainly isnt all or nothing.......lol

I used to experience pretty bad ego loss on a mushrooms comedown. I would get over it by realising that I was actually just coming down, and that things will be fine tomorrow.

I had an experience where I basically lost who I was. The person who I actually was became foreign and I got to experience a state where I could veiw the world, without my own ego (who I was, and why I was that person) clogging up my veiw. Really hard to explian, basically, who I was myt experiences, memories, personality etc. felt like another persons and not my own. This was a form of ego death?

I blame Leary for the obsession with ego loss. Regardless of what any of his, or anyone else's books will tell you, actively striving for ego loss is neither clever, nor likely to work. Besides which, the definition in itself has so many different meanings for different people, like every aspect of the psychedelic experience. For some, it's a brutal tearing away of their sense of self, which is terrifying but can ultimately be beneficial. For others, it's just a calm realisation that your sense of self, as defined by others, is nothing more than a shield, which the true self can cast aside- ego loss may be a feeling of being part of everything, or a feeling of being viciously torn to pieces. For others still, it's a long term thing and not just something that happens during a trip- it can take people months, or even years to reform their shattered ego.

People throw the term about as if it's something that is fundamentally good, but that's not the case since what the term even means is totally variable depending on the person in question. I consider ego loss to mean the break down of all our defense mechanisms, presumptions and ideas, particularly those relating to the self and the distinction between that and the outside world. Ego loss, to me, means the break down of the distinction between the self and the rest of the world, but everyone has their own definition of it. It's nothing you can strive for or be told about. Come to your own conclusions about your own experiences, and don't hold ego loss to be the holiest and greatest of things just because Leary said so.

Ellis is right, learn from each trip and ego loss will occur. I prefer to call this total spiritualization

While on the vast majority of substance I've tried, except for DMT, I experience the complete opposite of loss of ego.

I see my self as the most significant and powerful thing there is.
Especially on mushrooms. I'll sit there and laugh at everyone because I perceive them to be so insignificant and unenlightened and they don't realize it. I will refuse to speak to people because I see them as so unworthy that they would be unlikely to even understand what I say.

By the way, that isn't normal sober behavior for me.

once i sat on the couch and didn't blink for half an hour, i just let go, my eyes were open but i didn't see my room because i was looking inside. there was a feeling as if a desert was blowing in myself, endless and infinite. it was this calmness, as if i wasn't a human or a living being at all. i walked around in my body and switched different parts of it off. finally only my mind worked, the other parts of my body were as if parts of the couch, not organic matter. it was amazing. i thought i could will myself to stop breathing like that. no thoughts. i became first an object, then i was part of the landscape. great stuff.
