Idea: all criticism and ideas welcome

Ok so 'problem' is this
I want plenty of mushrooms for personal use, I don't want to attract the attention of law enforcement and I don't want to have a grow operation continuouslyor even occasionally going.

My idea is to practice cultivation until I'm fairly certain I can get a large grow going without problems. Then do one massive grow all at once, harvest, and somehow preserve the shrooms. I'm thinking drying then crushing them and packing glass jars filling any remaining space with an inert gas and putting them in freezer.

So I'm wondering how long do you guys think they would keep or even if this is a good idea. Please feel free to suggest alterations to my plan, or just criticize my plan (but please also provide a reason why), or even tell me to just scrap my plan (again a reason is appreciated).

from what ive heard shrooms are kinda fickle about being saved for quite some time.. a few months, sure, but theres no telling when youll get to it, and by then they could have freezerburn? not sure.. good luck tho

You should be fine growing as long as you TELL NO ONE, SHOW NO ONE.. if you give to a friend say someone hooked you up.. not you grew them... Trust no one.

i've heard that frozen dried mushrooms stay good for years, and i'm sure pumping helium into the jars couldn't hurt.

Yeah I won't but I also live in a rented apartment as well as being extra paranoid about how badly it could screw everything I have going for me right now if I get caught.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys, and yes I was thinking CO2 as my inert gas as I can get it very easily for free from my school. I just have to take a 3 hour class to be able to use the labs for whatever cheap research I want.
Keep suggestions coming and thanks again to everyone who has replied so far.

Cracker dry mushrooms will last a long long time even at room temp if kept in a place that is dark and isn't warm

Correct. Cracker dry, then stored in vacuum sealed bags with oxygen absorber and food grade silica gel packets in each one. They'll keep for many years without degradation that way. I recently opened some from 1996, and there was NO degradation that could be detected after ten years of room temperature storage.

I don't recommend growing in rented places, however.. If you do just hide some tubs in your closet covered with a blanket in the corner, they won't look around for your under wear, so they can't find shrooms. (the landlord that is)

sonsuming and storing alot of mushroom is illegal, obviously. But think of it as growing and storing bud. I don't know how much it is and it varies from state to state, but over a certain amount would be considered intent to distribute, which is a felony. check your local and state laws to see how much (lbs) of P. Cubensis mushrooms in a conviction for intent to sell/distribute. remeber to use your head. and be safe.

i was under the impression that if you make shroom chocolate (mixing powdered shrooms with melted chocolate), they will keep indefinitely if kept at room temperature or colder, since it's basically air-free (inside the chocolate).

I don't know if they last longer that way but they sure as hall are less likely to ever get you in trouble

Don't assume people here don't grow medicinal and gourmet mushrooms.

Don't forget, getting caught with a lot in your freezer is also a problem.
