Crumbling after Pinning?
    #6859287 - 05/01/07 05:41 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

I have some BRF jars that are pinning in the jar. Is it to late to crumble and spawn them to Hpoo? Or do I just need to birth and fruit?

Thanks and Happy Shrooooming

Birth them from the jars and remove every last trace of the pins before crumbling them and they should be fine. Next time try inoculating a grain bag they can be bought pre sterilized and its just easier that way.

If it's already pinning.. I'd suggest fruiting as a cake. The yield isn't very different anyway. A casing will bring you a biggest pinset, but my theory is that it will last less flushes. The substrate will run out of nutrients at the same speed as a cake would.

If there's just a few small pins, you can let them spawn right into the substrate along with the cake. There's no reason to pick them off first. It's a myth that pins will rot if spawned. Pins are simply mycelium in a different presentation. The two pictures below were taken five days apart from each other.

If there's a lot of pins, I'd suggest fruiting is as a cake and not disturbing it. A lot of pins indicates the mycelium has changed gears and gone into full blown fruiting mode. You can still birth the cakes and dunk overnight, pins and all.
