About my past attempt...
    #685859 - 06/18/02 11:47 AM (16 years, 6 months ago)

So about a year ago I found this site and made my first attempt at cultivating. All seemingly went well and I got a few decent sized and god looking shrooms from my efforts. However when my dog ingested them he found that they were very very weak and the desired effects were not nearly as pronounced as he had hoped. Now I'm trying to figure out why this may have been. Possible thoughts of mine were:

1. Bad / Weak spores
2. Bad growing conditions
3. Didnt allow mycelium network to really build before inducing fruiting.

Now from what I can gather #1 seems unlikely to me. As spores that created any type of shroom would be "good".

#2 seems like it ocud be possible but once again it seems that if they grew at all then I did obviously a good enough job

#3 seems the most likely to me as the mycelium was not very fluffy looking at all and didnt look brilliantly healthy. I birthed the cakes as soon as they were completely colonized and they only produced one flush.

So is #3 where I made my mistake? Would letting the myc. network grow stronger allow for stronger mushies?

Any input would be appreciated...

You left a few critical pieces of info out:

1. Were the mushrooms picked before veil was broken?
2. Were they dried or bioassayed immediately after picking?
3. If dried, what process was used?
4. Were they stored for some period of time? How long? In what conditions?

Some people claim that some strains affect them more than others... grow out a different strain and try again. Then again psilobin is psilobin.

1. They were picked just as the veil broke. I was eager and definitely didnt let them sit for too long.

2 and 3. They were dried in front of a fan for a few hours. In every case right after picking.

4. Stored in my closet in a pastic bag for any length of time between 1 day and 2 weeks.

I stopped with my efforts becuase the effects didnt seem worth the effort. In case anyone needs to know I belive these were Amazonians.

Thanks to those who have any clue why my dog grows weak shrooms.

Thanks for the details...

Perhaps they were damaged by heat in your closet. 2 weeks is a little long to be unrefrigerated.

How many did you consume? How many grams?

I wish I could answer how many "grams" my dog ate. However in my dogs newbieness he didnt bother weighing them after they were dried and just ate what he would normally trip balls off of from a dealer. So each time I had about 5-7 medium sized mushies...
