It is much more efficient in terms of controlling the expenditure of personal power. I see this the more I practice it. One just has to cultivate the habit of having no habits.

Yes, it was a recording of a lecture....not him in person. He was addressing students at a university.

It was just a short time ago that I myself would indulge in the static programming of the mighty television receptacle. It was a sad and lonely time in my life, horribly bereft of the slightest degree of joy. Overworked and underplayed, I would seek late night solace in the heated hues and tepid tones that emanated from within the depths of the strange device.

It wasn't long before I became hauntingly comforted by the abysmal voices of invisible beings from the intangible plane. My loneliness seemed to diminish for a time. I laughed and cried with my new dual dimensional friends. They would call out to me whenever I was away. They needed me, and I could not always be there. This induced within me an unspeakable sense of remorse. Things went strange for a time.

I would rush home from my responsibilities to see my grey bodied beauty glaring at me with her motionless eye, calling to me, "Sweetheart! Oh, sweetheart! Where have you been?"

"It's not important," I said as I gently but firmly embraced her 25"x17"x22" cubically modular exterior. "I love you Telly."

"Watch me," she said. "Watch me now! Watch me you dirty boy!"

Having soon found myself caught up in the moment, my mind had gotten away from me and I said "You're rear projection blows my mind!"

"What did you say!?" she shouted. "You know I implement cathode-ray tubes! Have you been watching other televisions?!"

I denied, but my lies would soon be seen through like the very glass covering her interior pixel matrix. She had found me out..I did, I watched other televisions.. I was guilty and I couldn't handle it. I tore her cords out of the wall like a band-aid off of the skin or the seal on a container of Re-sealable Oscar Mayer 98% Fat Free Bologna made with turkey.

I called the cable company and immediately demanded they cease all service to my small overpriced dirty little monkey cage.

"Okay, you're service has been canc.." the operator was saying as I abruptly hung up and stared blazingly at the television pointing my shaking finger..

"No more," I said, "No more will you enslave my mind.."

I covered it with a bed sheet and pushed it into the corner, scattered some half eaten fruit on top and went for a walk in order to get my mind straight.

I don't regret what I did. It simply had to be done, and nobody could do it but me. I pulled that plug like no plug has ever been pulled. And I am happier, healthier and all around better in every aspect for having done it.

This is my story. My name is SWIM. And I am no longer a slave to this particular media device.

I like the idea, but also make sure your children know why you are doing it.  I'm sure you've told them, but emphasise on it and that you are doing it out of the love.  You care about what their minds get exposed to and how their 'systems' are operating. Do watch tv with them at times and during the commericials, tell them what you think and feel about what the 'program' is trying to tell them.  nail it in their heads.  they will forget and be influenced easily by outside factors, friends and TV and friend's house. 

Also, ask them questions so they get used to the questioning process. This way they do not give their personal power away and instead learn the tools of the trade of enhancing their own. 

If I may ask, how old are they? I mean generally, as in teenager, young adult etc. 

Another good thing to do is to be active with them, if you can.  I know you probably are both busy, but being active parents along with a splash of understand, and dare I say 'coolness' your children will probably take your opinions really seriously, if they do not do it already.

and of course, this is only coming from a person who does not have children. :laugh:

I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I did explain that it was about making conscious decisions, but this rule was for ME as well. I also want to control where I am placing my attention.

My oldest is 19 and she does not live here, but goes to college, my next oldest is 18 and he is ready to graduate high school, my youngest is 16 and she is still in high school. I don't have little kids running around here...and that is a good thing.

My rule is no cable.  But I don't have a family, just roommates, and thankfully i have roommates who agree with this rule.  In my area, the cable company will actually charge you LESS to have high speed internet and cable television, as opposed to internet alone.:nut:  I think it's good to keep it out of the house altogether.  If it was around, I would probably spend some of my valuable time sitting in front of it for no good reason, so for me it makes the most sense to keep it out, especially since I can find anything i would have used TV for in the past on the internet, including the few TV shows I'm interested in, like South Park, which, being freed from the polluted medium of television networks, I can enjoy whenever I want, commercial free.

if you have TIVO i might suggest telling them the only way they are allowed to watch their shows is by recording them and watching them on dead tv so they can fast forward commercials

commercials cause disease

other than that i would suggest throwing the tv in the garbage or unsubscribing from channels and only using it for dvds and getting all information from the internet, perhaps even downloading favorite tv shows.

also realize that you will have to be very very strict and vigorous in getting this pattern created, most American children are ADD addled when it comes to following habits.... I was.

If I were to have children, I would not even have a TV in the house, instead spending the money that would otherwise go to mindless passive viewing to buy them books and take them as far as I could so they could see at least some of the world.

Great call on that one. I have only had a TV for about the last 5 years so it is still new to my kids. Lately I envision myself throwing it out of a window...of The Empire State Building...that new fangled piece of shit...
