do i need brown rice flour for it to work or will the shrooms grow without it...and is there anything else i could use instead of brown rice flour...i cant find the stuff anywhere

Brown rice is the nutrient/food in the substrate. No flour, no cubies. Get regular brown rice, from an organic store if possible. You don't need to buy BR flour, you can just buy brown rice and grind it up in a coffee grinder.

Try an All Natural store. If you don't have one around you I've heard of people using whole brown or white rice.

Pretty much, yes. There are other substrates people are using like birdseed, but for the novice, BRF is the way to go. Whole Foods, Central Market, HEB carry it. You can order it online as well. Sorry, I don't have links.

The critical thing is that you get organic. You DON't want any preservatives in there because they will inhibit the growth of fungus.

I had my friend grind it up in a coffee grinder, and we ground up so much that we burnt out the coffee grinder. So he took it over to my other friend's and he ground it up with a blender, and it worked fine. Just go to the supermarket to get the rice. It's cheap, so buy two bags. hehe

thanks for all the help, but im gunna go with the easiest sounding one and thats fireworks, i have plenty of rice here but no grinder so im going to use a blender too....

Use the coffee grinder that is in the coffee aisle of the store where you buy the rice at.

Personaly i have found whole brown rice to work great. it leaves more air space and colonizes faster. don't bother grinding it up at all cook per instructions on the bag/box strain and rinse (or not up to you. i find if it is rinsed it won;t stick together to much. then mix with verm and PC it..
I'll post some pics later if i can find my memory cards that have tme on it.
