Flush on Coco Coir

so taking 2 PF cakes... with a 60/40 coco coir casing layer....
They are starting to pin... but the pins are very sporatic (spelling) A few here ... a few there.... Im worried about an even Flush..\
As well, on a cake I grew... there was about 4 good medium size ones growing from one spot... but nothing else...
Ive tried reading through some of the earlier posts about this question... but Im not finding much detail besides just patching once mycellium appears...
How do i get a nice even flush like some of the ones I have seen... of pretty much a forest of mushrooms from one tray???
Ill take some pics later today of the one im talking about...
But could anyone give me a little more detailed message? Thanks

All you need my friend is Hyphae's strategy:

Using that I got these results!

How are you getting that type of flush? Is it that good b/c you dunked and patched?
And is that the first flush?

Yes, that's a nice pinset, but they look very, very small.
I'd like to see the harvest pics....

Looks pretty good for using a substrate as a casing layer
Blue Meaning posted a blog about it awhile back.
This thread.
Anyways, looking good man

they are correct.....
but you need to "Spawn" those cakes into h-poo or coir
then case with peat and verm.

Is that your first flush? Did you dunk them before the FC? Or are those results due to great patch work?
I read through the strategy you guys told me you used... And have only found minor differences.... such as patchwork

The things that I think are causing me to have very few pins.....
Possibly.. this is the first flush... I didnt let my mycellium redevolp itself before adding a casing... Did not dunk before hand... Did not patch...
Any opinions

i never dunk.
yes, first flush. it's different when you "SPAWN" you cake.
don't just crumble the cake and case. actually use your cake as another "seed" to a whole tray of substrate.
look at the spawning to coir thread in my signature it'll help ya out.
and yes, i patch... then goes directly in the FC
here is a picture of 10 Pf cakes crumbled and cased in a 2" casing tray.
looks like alot right??!? WRONG!
they dry to look like this....
Mushroom Frisbee
very brittle and stupid. ya need nice fat one's so when they dry, they don't shrivvle into nothing.

So you spawned to Coir.... then used it as a case as well? Why didnt you spawn to something with more nutrients?

As well are you saying that I should spawn to something else... b/c it will most definatley help with a bigger flush?

coir has plenty of nutes and it works great for a spawn, read some of oatmans past threads. if your gonna spawn to it then i wouldnt use it for a casing layer because it tends to overlay (so ive read) use the 50/50 tek peat and verm

That pinset I got with Rye alone cased with 50/50 peat verm and some oyster shells. The substrate doesnt make the pinset (although some perform slightly better than the others), but you can get great results with all subs as long as you know what you are doing.
It's the small differences that matter, trust me. Read the strategy carefully, make sure their is nothing minute you missed. One of my big flaws in beginning was misting. For some reason even though i read it many times i kept ignoring the misting procedure. You want to keep casing layer as moist as possible (without being too moist) untill pinset develops..

With the 50/50 casing tek I CANNOT find calcium carbonate anywhere. I have crushed oyster shell, verm, and peat moss. Will this work? I thought id Ask in this thread Rather then making a new post all together. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The crushed oyster shell is not fine enough to buffer peat quickly. In fact, if the particles are too large, it won't do shit to raise PH.

Yeah shells is more of a ph balancer than buffer.

Okay im not sure what is totally meant by that, I apologize for not understanding. The tek tells me to use the crushed oyster shell. does this mean i really do need calcium carbonate?
