im very paranoid about overlay especially with the time spent on this...( i never knew so much can be put into growwing, i dont know about you but its all i think about at work now  :grin: ) but anyways wondering if these are ready to be patched and placed in my fruiting chamber







and if these are not ready, what do you think is a good percentage of growth when i should place it in the fruiting chamber...  20-30% ?

i also have 4 other trays that look nothing like this probably due to the fact im experimenting with different thicknesses with the casing to see what shows better growth for my type of enviroment.

the ones pictured are my thinnest, set at about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of thickness give or take.

Yeah, not sure. I've heard of people keeping in dark for 7-14 days. maybe wait few more days. Just a suggestion.

I've always read it as patching when splotches come through and waiting until it's about 70% colonized evenly. Search for 'overlay' and look through some posts, from memory I don't think it's as dangerous as it's made out to be.

ive searched a lot on overlay and ive seen pics of horror stories. the mycellium gets ahrd and in turn doesnt allow for pins to form in those spots. so you are left with nothing but a few patches where pins can grow.

From that, and numerous other RR posts, I get the impression that overlay is pretty rare and shouldn't occur except under the most negligent and distasteful of conditions. Be patient and keep an eye on it, but don't worry too much.

The good thing about this is that it never hurts to wait a little longer for some truly expert advice. Unless your mycelium has grown legs and stolen your car, you should be fine.

Your casing layer looks uneven which might affect the pinset, but other than that you should place into fruiting conditions within the next day or two.

As stated above, overlay is a rare occurence and the term is thrown around too often at conditions that are not actually overlay. True overlay means that the mycelium mats down so much over the entire tray that the whole thing becomes non-porous and thus no water delivery is possible. This won't happen to you unless you mess up pretty bad, so don't!!
