Liberty caps in spring?

Hi! My first post here. I'm from eastern Europe and today me and my friend found some mushrooms in the pasture that I think could be liberty caps, but does liberty caps ever grow in spring? The temperature is about right for them here 10C at night and 15C at day.

You should post photos of the mushrooms, so that we can ID them for you, before you eat them.
Also, you are not in direct violation of the rules, though you should read them:
Quote:
I. Mushroom Hunting Forum rules
7. Do NOT ask about current finds in your area. These posts have been flooding the forum at the start of seasons. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for, you just might find some.

Well thats why I didn't post where exactly I live. Anyway, I don't have camera so I can't post images. I had taken spore print and it's hard to tell exact color, but it looks dark almost black or dark grey.

I believe it is certainly a possible, although pretty rare occurrence

Take the fresh mushroom and try to peel of the top layer on the cap. Are you able to pull off a gelatinous clear layer called a pileus??
If so, then you may have Psilocybe semilanceata. If not, then you likely have something else.

Well the mushrooms have dryed quite a bit there is no clear gelatinous layer. Maybe tomorow I will get some fresh ones.

Good idea.
Psiclops, there is not always an umbo, though usually, yes, there is.
Also, some people are colour blind, so I try not to rely on new people to differentiate between black, purple, brown, etc.

Could not find any photos of a semi print. I do not think you should eat them, unless someone experience in mushroom identification is able to look at them and make a positive identification.

Well there isn't enough for a trip anyway, but I heard that there are no really poisonous mushrooms similar to liberty caps. In worst case scenario only a nausea and stomachache. Or is this BS?

That is bull shit.
What looks like a liberty cap to you, may look nothing like a liberty cap to me. It is subjective, and thus, you cannot rule out poisonous mushrooms that are "similar" to liberty caps. Certainly people have died and gotten very sick and needed medical attention from eating what they thought would get them high.

But do you know any very poisonous mushrooms same size, shape and colour as liberty cap? I agree that it's very subjective when you get to details, but I doubt anyone would confuse Amanita phalloides with liberty cap.

I dunno. Some might think this looks like a liberty cap, though I certainly do not:

I do not either. And how these little fellas are called? Are they poisonous? Don't forget I'm educating myself here.

anyone making this assumption would be making a "GRAVE" mistake...
BUT i have found a single liberty cap growing in SE Canada around Halifax during Late July. was around 65 degrees during the day...
I wish i had my camera... if you would like to take my word, go ahead but i have no proof other than that sadly. I plan to go back within the next couple of years though to do more hunting...

Did they grow on dung? Cuz that = not semilanceata..
And I've been hunting a lot in eastern Europe and never found one in springtime(but I think that is pretty universal.)

I think you might have seen one of those "balloon" mushrooms, they're around in my area(upstate New York) in July, and can look a little bit like some of the young liberty caps I've seen posted on here.

Nast, no they didn't grow on dung just in grass. I will go to hunt for more in following days if the weather will be better than today. I wonder if mushrooms start growing when conditions are right or they only grow in right season.
