Sanitation of Terrarium/Aquarium as incubators

For something simple like PF cakes, I was orignally going to buy a cooler or tupperware to make my incubator with but I found that, when on sale, fish aquariums have a good size and come with lids that have lights, as well as grates for air flow. Of course the lizard ones are even better suited. Most people I see though use giant tupperwares for their incubators... I figure that this gives an air-tight seal (especially for incubating for mycelium growth which needs to be kept extra sterile) so it is optimal.
The aquarium though seem to have some advantages, and for my sake, are really easy to set up, come with lights and are hellah cheap if you comparison shop. Should I go ahead and buy it or am I asking for contamination (for mycelium growth and alternately after i birth the cakes.)

If you put an air-tight seal on an incubator it will 'choke out' the mycelium and it will stall. The jars will need to be able to exchange gas. Jars don't really need to be incubated, either, you can just set them on an open shelf. However, many like to incubate and so even then sanitation is not really required. I mean, it should be clean but don't go crazy. As long as the jars have a good filter on them (tyvek, polyfill or micropore) they will be fine.

Go to your local home megacenter and get tyvek coveralls from the paint department to cut up and use as filters. Post office tyvek is not only illegal to use but subpar as far as performance goes.
Normal room temperature is the way to colonize jars. People who build incubators have a higher rate of contamination and other problems and those who succeed only have a minor decrease in colonization times. 75F to 80F is perfect for colonizing, and you should be able to find a nice place in your house that has that temperature, such as a top cupboard shelf in your kitchen or an upper bookshelf in the den. Colonizing jars need gas exchange which they don't get in a sealed tub. RR

Thanks Roger... I guess homedepot is going to save my ass once again. I wonder about the 75-80 degress. I think I have the perfect shelf... I'll try to keep a good temperature (I need to get a thermometer) but my apartment is somewhat small and it's either freezing or burning up. This gives me hope that my poor man's ways will work though... thanks for clearing that up for me.
