i just got a new laptop :) with vista :(

yeah, my old laptop allready had a failed screen, which i fixed by dragging around a 20 inch tv with a s video connection, but then it started shutting down randomly and not getting online..

so i went to best buy and bought a new Acer laptop, only $650, but pretty decent...
dvd+rw, 120gig HD, 1 gig DDR

seems allright, i havent tried installing my old programs and utilites yet, so we shall see how shitty vista really is...

i have heard a lot of bad things, but as you cant even buy a computer with XP on it anymore, i didnt really have a choice...

nothing is wrong with xp, lots of things wrong with vista, i wanted to buy an xp machine, but i couldnt because they dont make em any more

Have you tried Ubuntu?

Well worth the trouble/learning experience IMO.

Yes you can. Dell, pushed by customer requests, is offering an option to have either XP or Vista packaged with their computers now.

Oh and you always have the option to buy a Mac.

yeah, dell brought back XP due to high demand.

I too got a new laptop about a week ago with vista on it.. HP, its actually pretty nice.. the only problem i have had, is with windows media player 11.. i dont like it.

but overall it seems like windows is trying to make vista look like a mac. IMO.. not a bad OS though

vista's got some ok features, but im having display issues (or was, seems like my last update took care of it), and i get random system errors too (non fatal but it happens). It's just kind of bulky now, a definite resource hog, and they took away the run box which pisses me off.

you can tell vista to show the run box on the start menu, just right click the task bar click properties, go to the start menu tab and click customize and check the run command.

i'm using vista right now and it's fine, it looks pretty and my laptop can handle it just fine, it still has some bugs though but it's not that bad. most people i know who say vista is shit have never even tried it.

I fired Bill Gates about a year ago after my laptop crashed 3 times in 8 weeks. I have since bought a Mac and could not be happier.

I am not a computer "geek" but I have a lot of friends that are. They said that within 2 months they will be running strictly Linux. They say Linux is not for the casual computer person but if they were in that 'casual' category then they too would buy a Mac.
