Call in sick, but make it elaborate not some lame excuse!

Or you could always go with the mentality that 'it WILL end, and you WILL be done with it soon, and you'll have an extra day on your paycheck that you wouldn't have had'.

You just call and say "Hey boss, I can't make it in today."

It's none of their business why.

If they actually ask why say it's personal.

That's what happens to me. I hate going to work but once I'm there I don't care.

Tell them you got sexually assaulted by a gang of badgers. Use personal problems- you don't have to explain, and even if they're pushy with you, you can be vague.

If you really don't want to go in tell em you have piles or chronic irritable bowel syndrome, something embarassing that you're unlikely to have made up.

Also that way karmically you balance out your skiving with having to bear the shame.

In the UK you can have 5 days off before you need a doctor's note.

Handy!

Rough stuff.

But really, your employer will have a pretty good idea you're just dodging out on work. Just buck up and go in. If you can't do it now, you'll have to learn later.

The easiest way to get out of work is when your shift is finished, you leave.

not really rough, done out of necessity...we are pretty lax here but we do rely on each other and most of the time cannot reschedule work for another day.

I will and have done my best to accomodate employees but a few bad apples that take advantage of the system ruined it for all

Unfortunate that it is a necessity. But there are always some people who will try and squeeze out of work, and if you can't afford that, more power to you.

Pain in the ass to have to go visit a doc just because you got the 24 hour flu, though.

Just say diarrhea... nobody really wants to hear or elaborate on that one usually.
