Hey everyone i've decided to prepare a substrate which consists of vermiculite brown rice and water , but what i ve seen is it will be a big problem for me to find vermiculite around here (gone out all day looking for vermiculite but noone knows even what it is=( ) , but i have used perlite before with other herbs . and from what i have read they basicly do the same job in the soil So my question is can i use perlite instead of vermiculite in the cakes or is vermiculite a must ? ( i was planning to use the vermiculite brown rice and water formula )

not a must for verm. just helps with water content and air in cake. To help mycelium grow faster.

You can't use perlite instead of vermiculite.
If you need help finding Vermiculite locally... send me a private message with what area you live in... and I'll be glad to help you find it in your area.

yeah you can scrape the print into your jar. use a glove box. but you could also make several syringes out of your print too.

It would pay off to make syringes since it allows the spores to hydrate. I read somewhere that you should wait a week after making a syringe before using it to maximize efficiency. You might want to get a confirmation of that though.

hmm blirska so you say getting them in a syringe is better or what ? and why im asking if i could scrape them off to a jar normally is because i think i have mor chance to contaminate it while trying to get em in syringes and innoculating from them am i right am i wrong tell me something =)

as long as the print is steril you could scrape it into a jar but, im sure you have the same success if you put the print into several syringes. just put your jar in a glove box along with the print, assuming you made a viable print. then scrape part apprx. 1/8 of the print which is alot, into a jar. 1 cc per 1/2 pint is plenty so estimate from there.

I havent used a print yet so I can't speak of experience, but that is what I've read on the boards. Hydrated spores have a better chance to germinate. You could of course just scrap some of the print off, but it will take you a lot more spores using that method compared to a syringe. Depending on the size of your print, you could easily make 15+ syringes out of it.
