Low Dose = Negative Trip?

A few months ago I took some mushies on this great beautiful mountain in Sedona, AZ. Hanging out with a couple friends, smoking hookah, and enjoying the view seemed like a perfect setting for a trip.
I took roughly 1.2g, and had a great couple of hours enjoying the scenery. However, after the first two hours or so I started having negative thoughts. I kept thinking about how worthless life felt, etc etc.
It didn't exactly turn into a *bad* trip. I knew where I was, what I was doing, and that I had taken a drug, and I wasn't in complete agony or anything...but I just felt depressed as hell, and couldn't get myself out of it.
Finally started coming down, felt really anxious, and had a really shitty back ache while hiking down the mountain.
Then, two days ago I took about 1.2g again. Just as before, it started off fantastic at first, and slowly turned into a really negative, analytical, anxious trip. I was able to bring myself out of it, but ended up going right back down. My emotions were like a rollercoaster. Finally started coming down, and had a shitty back ache like before.
I can't figure out why I can't just have a fully positive experience on mushrooms. I am generally a very positive person, though I go through my bouts of depression here and there.
Someone told me low doses tend to give you more of an analytical trip, and recommended I try something higher than what I have been using.
What do you think? I really would like to be able to enjoy shrooms like I used to.

I've had the same problem with normal old marijuana sometimes. Sometimes I get too analytical, and I realize things may not always turn out for me... and in only a few years I might be some depressed, single loser in a job I hate.
I hate it when that happens.

The mushroom will usually bring out what is already there. I find on lower doses, you are still swimming around in the realm of the ego, and you are able to see what you really are under all the stories and games.
Maybe you are an anxious person and you don't realize it. To me that is one of the gifts of the mushroom. It brings out what isn't totally obvious, and allows you to face it head on.
Instead of turning away from it like it's something to avoid, run into it headfirst.
Peace

i understand the need to understand. a low dose can be some what of a small wang in the back of your brain or just the slightest change in thought structure. without the full blown trip you may had too much conection to yourself. cus well, you are worthless. and thats exactly how mushrooms make me feel too. and i love it dont concentraint on your ego . let all emotions rroll. if you need to cry; cry; if you find somthing funny laugh your ass off. let it all flow. there are no bad trips. the trip itself takes you to a place beyond our dulistic strugle. take refuge in your worthlessness

If i smoke pot in the come up or while peaking I get totally paranoid, and once that paranoia is magnified my trip gets dark and adds another level of confusion which I dont like. Now when you are coming down is another story, Pot makes the trip bright again and colorful for a while.

I am the exact same way, and seem to be the only one like this in my close group of friends I trip with. The rest can smoke non-stop during come up and peak time without any anxiety/paranoia. Doesnt bother me though, id rather trip with a clear head anyways and MJ usually takes that clarity away.

I dont think its fair to make such a gerneralizations. It really depends on countless factors. If you think a higher dose would work out better for you, give it a shot. The only way to know is to experiment.

With the lower doses I usually get a feeling of euphoria and just laugh my arse off. But I haven't stacked them with ganja, so who knows how I might react with the two combined.

Honestly, I agree with what everyone here has said so far. It's obvious that you are thinking about something that you are uncomfortable with. That being said, don't view it as negativity, instead, plan another low dose shroom trip just so you can think about it again. Ask all of the questions you can of yourself, what makes life feel worthless, soak it in, and if you think it would be a good idea, act on what you learned.
If you wanna skip that whole part, you could, you could take higher doses and just enjoy the "scenery." But who is to say, that you might experience the same thing on a higher dose, and it could be even more intense and negative, and instead of working it out on lower doses at your will, your forced to face it all right then and there.
My friend, in a positive point in her life absolutely loved shrooming, but around one month ago, when she dosed, she had a lot problems in her life that were affecting her emotionally. She took three grams at my party (she also only weighs 100lbs or so), and had one of the worst trips I had ever seen. She was forced to face them, all of the bad thoughts all at once, she wanted to escape and the thoughts to stop, but they just kept coming, and she had to wait for the trip to end. But the whole time when this was happening, she was whimpering "no more trip, no more shrooms, no no no no", she was reduced to a person running on instinct, she had to pee, said so, and in five seconds, she peed all over my air mattress. We went to clean her off, and I gave her a fresh pair of clothes, and in an instant, she dropped her clothes right then and there. I helped her stand, while her boyfriend wiped the pee off of her body, and all we could do is comfort her. The next morning, even though she was ashamed of it, she told me everything she was thinking about the night before and that she was glad it happened to her, even though she went through hell.
(And yeah, the ganja kinda makes my trips very cloudy and confusing, and the thought of not being able to think makes me even worse, and it is a bitch to stop it from escalating from there)
-I hope this helps you.

I've actually had that happen too. Low doses of shrooms make me nervous and uncomfortable, but I don't feel any good effects. It reminds me the difference between a small hit of salvia causing the uncool "twisting", compared to a full-on breakthrough were it's all mental. With LSD, I've never really had any strange feelings like that; it's only with low doses of shrooms.

I once did a shroom extraction (down to the yellow powder). I didn't know how strong it was so I took only a small amount. I'm guessing this was about the equivalent of 1 gram of dried shrooms. The trip started out pretty normally but after about 2 hours from dosing it seemed to be ending rapidly. The only part of the trip I could feel was a bit of confusion. I didn't feel like reading or doing other things because of the confusion and music was no fun so I went for a walk. And every little thing annoyed me on the walk. It seemed like there were a million cars and trucks making all sorts of noise when normally I would hardly notice them out walking. It was like being very pissed off about something and then every little thing that you normally would not notice seems annoying.
One other time with a low dose was uneventful. I took about a gram of dried shrooms at bedtime to see what effect it might have on dreams. I laid there and didn't feel much, except that I didn't go to sleep as quickly as usual. I woke up a few hours later and could still feel a slight trip but basically it was just a waste of the trip. No weird dreams or anything.
